Stewardship Note: “Come after me...” - Matthew 4:19. In our
crazy, success-driven, materialist world we all get caught up in
chasing after many dreams, wants and ambitions. Yet, with three
simple words, Jesus tells us clearly that the only one we should be
following after is Him. “Come after me,” is not just an invitation
that Jesus extended to the first apostles. It is an invitation that He
extends to each of us every day of our lives.
Word of Life. It is indispensable that new technological
developments in the field of medicine never be to the detriment of
respect for human life and dignity, so that those who suffer
physical illnesses or handicaps can always receive that love and
attention required to make them feel valued as persons in their
concrete needs. – Pope Benedict XVI, Nov. 7, 2010
THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
January 23, 2011
Wait for the Lord with courage;
be stouthearted, and wait for the Lord.
– Psalm 27:14
Seeking the Light. In today’s readings we find ourselves
being drawn more deeply into
relationship with Jesus. We are getting
to know more about him as we see how
he struggles with the news of his cousin
John’s arrest. His first response is to
withdraw, to leave Nazareth and go to
Capernaum. Jesus contemplates his
cousin’s death, perhaps his own death,
and he seeks the light. Maybe it is these
words of Isaiah that move Jesus out of his withdrawal and
into action. He begins to preach, teach, cure disease and
illness, and proclaim the gospel of the kingdom.
The second collection next week is for all remaining
envelopes in your budget packet.
BAPTISM
The proper place for Baptism is the Church oratory. It is a very
strong tradition that the sacrament, as a sign of entrance into the
Church community, should be celebrated in a place where that
community assembles for worship. In fact, the celebration of
Baptism during the Mass where the faithful are gathering, the
incorporation into ecclesial body of a baptized person is fully
manifested. The celebration of Baptism outside the Church
although might have traditional roots, should take place only in
extreme circumstances. The infant may be baptized only with the
consent of the parents or guardian with the assurance of Catholic
upbringing, however, in danger of death the child could be baptized
without parental consent. The baptism of the infant should not be
delayed to make certain that the child is not deprived of the
opportunity to grow in the grace of God and to protect him in the
danger of death. The parents should undertake special instructions
from their Pastor so they will be well prepared to understand the
baptism of their child.
CHRISTMAS CONCERT REFLECTIONS
The St. Joseph Basilica faithful were offered a special
opportunity to participate in a Christmas concert performed by
several choirs from Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut.
I am grateful to many parishioners who took advantage of this rare
opportunity and came in a larger number to enjoy and relive once
again the great mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God in
human nature. I am grateful to our choirs who participated in this
concert and also prepared a reception for approximately 175
singers. St. Joseph Basilica with its beautiful decor was admired by
the guests and was indeed a perfect background for this musical
event.
The decorations will be removed in the next few days. It is a
major undertaking to dismantle the decorations and properly store
them for next year. In the scope of the universal Church, past and
present, the Christmas season actually has two endings. In the old

calendar, the Feast of the Presentation on February 2 marked the
end of the Christmas season. On this day, also called Candlemas,
candles are blessed as a symbol of Simeon’s recognition of the
infant Jesus as the light to the Gentiles, and as a way to bring the
light of Christ home to burn all year. Even today, the Christmas
tree and creche in St. Peter’s in Rome remain on display until
Candlemas.
POPE JOHN PAUL II BEATIFICATION
The announcement of the beatification of
John Paul II energized the world and
electrified many people. Rome is preparing
for the largest crowd ever to participate in
this beatification. Beatification and
canonization is the official statement of the
Church that a person obtained eternal
salvation proven by heroic virtues of faith,
love and hope, sealed by supernatural power
of God in a given miracle.

FESTIVAL PLANNING MEETING
The Planning meeting for the festival took place on Tuesday,
January 11th. This important event provides significant assistance
to our school. Catholic schools and their graduates make a definite
contribution to American society because of their traditionally high
academic standards and high graduation rates, all supported by
strong moral values. The 38th Annual St. Joseph Basilica Festival
is just around the corner, and we need everyone’s input to make it
a continued success. We are asking that all school families,
parishioners, former and present booth chairs, and any interested
parties to join us for our next meeting on Sunday, February 13,
2011 at 3 p.m. in the school cafeteria. We missed you at our last
meetings and we value your suggestions. This is the biggest
fundraiser for our school, and the students reap the benefits of
everyone’s hard work. Don’t let them down! See you there. – Cindi

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
"Pójdïcie za mn ..." - Mateusz 4,19. W naszym szalonym,
materialistycznym Ñwiecie, w dóeniu do sukcesu angaóujemy si“ w
pogo½ za realizacj marze½, pragnie½ i ambicji. Tymczasem Jezus, w
z nasz i to w kaódym dniu naszego óycia.

CHRZEST
Pierwszym i najodpowiedniejszym miejscem do sprawowania
sakramentu chrztu jest KoÑció». Jest to bardzo silna tradycja, óe
sakrament ten, jako znak wejÑcia do wspólnoty KoÑcio»a, powinna byƒ
sprawowana w miejscu, w którym wspólnota gromadzi si“ aby oddawaƒ
czeу Bogu.
widocznym znakiem zjednoczenia z mistycznym cia»em Chrystusa tj.
niebezpiecze½stwie Ñmierci dziecko moóe byƒ ochrzczone bez zgody
rodziców. Chrztu niemowlt nie naleóy opóïniaƒ. Chrzest zapewnia
dziecku okazj“ do wzrastania w »asce i chroni go w niebezpiecze½stwie
Ñmierci. Rodzice, przed chrztem dziecka, powinni spotkaƒ si“ z
w»asnym duszpasterzem w celu dobrego przygotowania si“ do tego
sakramentu .

Boóego w ludzkiej naturze wychwalana w kol“dach i pastora»kach.

usuni“te w cigu najbliószych kilku dni. W starym kalendarzu, Ñwi“to
Ofiarowania 2 lutego oznacza»o koniec okresu boóonarodzeniowego. W
tym dniu, zwanym teó Matki Boskiej Gromnicznej, b»ogos»awione s
