Stewardship Note: “....and many paralyzed or crippled people
were cured. There was great joy in that city.” (Acts 8:7-8) It’s easy
to rejoice in the gifts that God gives when they are as outstanding
as a lame man walking or a sick man cured. However, do we take
time to thank God for the many miracles He gives us everyday –
good health, family, friends, education, employment, housing?
Being grateful is the secret to being joyful.
SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER - May 29, 2011
“I will ask the Father,
and he will give you...the Spirit of
truth.”
The Reason For Our Hope. “What is
the reason for your hope?” Imagine somebody coming up to
you and asking you that question. Not “What are you
hoping for?” or “What are you hoping to do?” No, this isn’t
about our desires for possessions or aspirations for life, it’s
“Why do you hope?” Peter today tells us that we ought to
be ready to give an answer to this question.... We hope
because Christ suffered for us, in order that we might come
to God. We hope because we know that, in the Spirit, God
grants us another Advocate through Christ to remain with
us always. No matter what we might hope for, whatever we
might hope to do, we must always first know and proclaim
the reason for our hope: the presence of God in Christ, with
us through the power of the Spirit.
The second collection next weekend is for the
Diocesan Obligations
MEMORIAL DAY
We invite all the faithful of St.
Joseph Basilica and St. Andrew Bobola
parishes as well as from surrounding
areas to join us on Monday, May 30 at
9:45 a.m. at St. Joseph Garden of
Peace to pay tribute to those who so
bravely served our country in the name
of peace. Have a blessed and safe
Memorial Day!
They fell, but o’er their glorious
grave
Floats free the banner of the cause they died to save.
– Francis Marion Crawford
THE ASCENSION OF THE LORD
On Thursday, June 2nd, we observe the solemnity of the
Ascension of the Lord. It is a holy day of obligation and the
schedule of Masses is listed elsewhere in the bulletin. All of us who
look forward for life eternal will joyfully participate in this
solemnity of the Ascension.
WHO ARE WE ON THE EVE OF THE JUBILEE
Preparing the celebration of the 125th anniversary of our parish
calls for a little reflection on the present generation which
characterizes our community of faith. Although we have a special
history and identity yet we are not a monolith living in isolation
and separated from the rest of society, but affected by the changes
of our country, its culture, economy, and even political life. We are
all involved in shaping our future whether we are liberal or
conservative, clerical or lay, rich or poor. There are many among
us who worship God regularly every Sunday and those who,
deceived by the culture of death, created a pseudo-religion for
themselves. As a Catholic community we are challenging,
demanding, struggling and trying to get on to adhere to Catholic
principles. There are many issues and opinions voiced and spread
in our community, rightly or wrongly, freely expressed in local
coffee shops on the subject of cultures, ideologies, ecclesiologies,
Page 3
29 May 2011 - 29 maj 2011 r.
and views on social life which might reflect the diversity of our
community but they have little value. In our daily life as Catholics
of St. Joseph Basilica various ideas such as apathy and creativity,
dysfunction and volunteering, indifference and new initiatives
continue to run side by side. But by the end of the day out of
confusion of opinions, voices and beliefs parishioners will come
together united in a common purpose to promote the Gospel values,
serve one another, and participate in the jubilee activities.
FIRST FRIDAY ADORATION
The First Friday adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take
place after the 7 a.m. Mass on June 3, 2011 and continue
throughout the day concluding at 3 p.m. with the Chaplet to the
Divine Mercy and benediction. Adorers are asked to attend at their
scheduled time. A Mass will also be celebrated at 7 p.m. in the
Polish language.
First Friday practices date to the last decades of the 17th century,
when Jesus appeared to St. Margaret Mary and spoke to her of His
Sacred Heart. Among the promises Our Lord revealed to St.
Margaret Mary, the 12th specifically referenced practices for
Fridays:
In the excess of the mercy of my Heart, I promise you that my all
powerful love will go to all those who will receive Communion on
the First Fridays, for nine consecutive months, the grace of final
repentance: they will not die in my displeasure, nor without
receiving the sacraments; and my Heart will be their secure refuge
in the last hour.
CATHOLIC COMMUNICATIONS CAMPAIGN
The Catholic Communication Campaign (CCC) is an important
component in the faith life and growth of the Church in today’s
world. CCC provides funding for Catholic content on the Internet,
radio and television, and in print to bring the gospel message to
life. The enclosed flyer talks about the kinds of things supported
by the collection in an interesting “quiz” format. Interesting facts
that you may not have known.
Although the diocese has suggested the collection to be held on
the weekend of June 4 and 5, here at St. Joseph Basilica the
collection will be taken on the weekend of June 18/19.Thank you
for your support.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS
There are many Catholic organizations that men with higher
aspirations can join. Out of these the Knights of Columbus appears
to be the most popular advocating men’s spirituality, integrity and
stability of family life, even providing financial assistance to
families in particular circumstances. In recent years this
organization that has American roots successfully spread to many
European countries. Several years ago St. Joseph Basilica was the
sight of introduction of 20 men to the rank of first degree. Many
members meet on a monthly basis, provide support and assistance
to the Church, and occasionally to the school.
Any man in the parish who would like to be part of this type of
fraternity is welcome to apply for membership by calling St. Joseph
Basilica for an application or any member of the Knights of
Columbus Council No. 12980. You can enrich your family life,
help the Church and discover meaning in life.
DONATIONS
St. Joseph School immediate Needs Fund. In memory of: Helen
Ostrokolowicz by Kevin McNamara, Marcia Szugda & Srinivas
Emani.
CEMETERY
With extra-ordinary effort the parish cemetery returned to its
appropriate appearance. The flags are displayed on the decorative
fence for the Memorial Day celebration and family members
decorated the graves. The main gate and wall has been fixed. To
protect this gate from imprudent drivers the main gate will be
closed and open only for funerals. We encourage visitors to use the
two side entrances.
FIRE ALARM SYSTEM
The second stage of the church fire alarm system has been
completed. So far we paid $7000 for the two sections. There is still
one more stage to be completed which will be implemented next
year.

Niemniej jednak jako wspólnota powinnismy wyjsc z tego chaosu
