SHARING OUR BLESSINGS - February 6, 2011
Weekly $4926.25 (incl. $264.25 in loose money); Diocesan
Obligations $781 (incl. $78 in loose money); Fuel $170.
I am grateful to all the parishioners for their generosity. The
Bishop’s office reports that “Sharing Our Blessings” was the first
comprehensive increased offertory endeavor in the history of the
Diocese. One hundred parishes participated in the program. The
Diocesan Steering Committee had established a diocesan goal for
increased offertory in the order of 25%.” We are pleased that our
parish showed a 22% increase over 200 with hopes that it will be
sustained.
Stewardship Note: “Before man are life and death, good and evil,
whichever he chooses shall be given to him.” (Sirach 15:17). It
seems that in this life we have an endless array of difficult choices
always conflicting for our time and our attention. But in the end it
is all very simple. Do we choose to give or do we choose to have?
Do we choose to participate or do we choose to go our own way?
Do we choose God or do we choose the world?
SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
February 13, 2011
What eye has not seen, and ear has not heard,
and what has not entered the human heart,
what God has prepared for those who love (God),
this God has revealed to us through the Spirit.
– Corinthians 2:9-10
Choice. In today’s reading from Matthew’s
Gospel, Jesus reminds us of our freedom
and our responsibility for our lives. He calls
us to look beyond the words of the
commandments, all the way to their
meaning. Look beyond the adultery to the
selfishness that poisons our love. Look
beyond the murder to the anger that eats
away at our compassion. Look beyond the
perjured testimony to the lies and deception that drive our
behavior. Our vocation is to choose life for ourselves, and to
choose a path through our part of the world that helps make life
possible and more abundant for others as well.
