SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM:
Baptism is celebrated each Sunday immediately after the
11:45 Mass. Registration and Parental instruction are required
before Baptism. Please call the Rectory for an appointment
several weeks before the desired date.
SACRAMENT OF MARRIAGE:
Marriages are to be arranged at least six months in advance,
and prior to any social arrangements. Pre-Cana Conferences
required. Schedule is given during the first appointment with
the priest.
SACRAMENT OF THE SICK & VISITATION OF THE SICK:
Please call the rectory to arrange for the Sacrament of the Sick
and Communion to be brought to the sick and shut- ins.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Over the next few weeks, if you were to stroll around
Prague or Budapest or Kraków, you might see curious grafetti scratched in chalk over some doorways:
“20 + C + M + B + 16.” The families dwelling behind
those doors have celebrated the Epiphany door blessing. They have gathered before the feast-day meal,
probably after Mass, and the head of the family has
traced the sign of the cross on the piece of chalk.
Standing on a ladder, the leader traces the numbers
for the new year, and the letters C M B for Christus
Mansionem Benedicat, Latin for “May Christ bless
this house.” The letters also point to the names that
tradition has assigned to the mysterious magi, Caspar,
Melchior, and Balthasar—although scripture tells us
nothing of their number, their country, or their names.
The blessing speaks of journeys ended and journeys
begun at the doorway, and prays that all journeys be
as satisfying as was the magi’s. It prays that the house
beyond the door have the quality of love and peace
that the magi marveled at when they at last arrived in
Bethlehem. In some countries where the Soviet Union tried to impose a harsh atheism, the vigor of this
household custom survived all efforts to erase Christian customs. In the years of struggle, the chalked
blessings were a pervasive sign of defiance, and now
in the light of new freedoms, they are a sign of the
resilience of our tradition and the fulfillment of the
magi’s quest for meaning and peace.

OBJAWIENIE PAN'SKIE
Pokłon Mędrców ze Wschodu złożony
Dziecięciu Jezus symbolizuje pokłon świata pogan,
wszystkich ludzi, którzy klękają przed Bogiem
Wcielonym. To jedno z najstarszych świąt w
Kościele. Trzej królowie być może byli astrologami,
którzy ujrzeli gwiazdę - znak narodzin Króla. Jednak
pozostanie tajemnicą, w jaki sposób stała się ona dla
nich czytelnym znakiem, który wyprowadził ich w
daleką i niebezpieczną podróż do Jerozolimy.
Herod, podejmując ich, dowiaduje się o celu
podróży. Podejrzewa, że narodził się rywal. Na
podstawie proroctwa w księdze Micheasza (Mi 5, 1)
kapłani jako miejsce narodzenia Mesjasza
wymieniają Betlejem. Tam wyruszają Mędrcy.
Odnajdując Dziecię Jezus, ofiarowują Mu swe dary.
Otrzymawszy we śnie wskazówkę, aby nie wracali
do Heroda, udają się do swoich krajów inną drogą.
W Trzech Magach pierwotny Kościół widzi
siebie, świat pogański, całą rodzinę ludzką, wśród
której zjawił się Chrystus, a która w swoich
przedstawicielach przychodzi z krańców świata
złożyć Mu pokłon. Uniwersalność zbawienia
akcentują także: sama nazwa święta, jego wysoka
ranga i wszystkie teksty liturgii dzisiejszego dnia.
Od XV/XVI w. w kościołach poświęca się
dziś kadzidło i kredę. Kredą oznaczamy drzwi na
znak, że w naszym mieszkaniu przyjęliśmy
Wcielonego Syna Bożego. Piszemy na drzwiach
litery K+M+B, które mają oznaczać imiona
Mędrców lub też mogą być pierwszymi literami
łacińskiego zdania: (Niech) Chrystus mieszkanie
błogosławi - po łacinie: Christus mansionem
benedicat. Zwykle dodajemy jeszcze aktualny rok.

ikonografii
od
czasów
wczesnochrześcijańskich
Trzej
Królowie
są
przedstawiani jako ludzie Wschodu w barwnych,
częstokroć perskich szatach. W X wieku otrzymują
korony. Z czasem w malarstwie i rzeźbie rozwijają
się różne typy ikonograficzne Mędrców.
