SHARING OUR BLESSINGS - July 31, 2011 Weekly $5150.75 (incl. $338.7 in loose money); Diocesan Obligations $51; Fuel $110. Weekly Budget $7500. Stewardship Note. Elijah recognized the voice of God not in the strong and heavy wind, not in the earthquake, and not in the fire, but in a tiny whispering sound. May we find enough quiet in our clamorous world to hear His voice and discern what He is calling us to do and be. Word of Life. In this media age when our human contacts are more often via Facebook, and texting, blogs. . . and e-mails. . . the ability to form lasting human and spiritual relationships, face-toface, seems to be diminishing. I wonder if the life giving spring of the Sacrament of Marriage is not the real “LIVE” life-giving witness and example of married couples in all stages of life whether in the family of the church or in the community of our daily life? Real marriages and real moments in couples and family life are not found in a text book, in the pages of theological and catechetical and canonical journals. . . even as important as they must be to us. Real examples and real models of faith are “Incarnational” when our beliefs become reflected in our lives by examples of faith, hope, and love, sometimes against the most impossible situations. MARRIAGE BANNS I - Olga Tabaczuk and Marcin Skrodzki NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME August 7, 2011 Truth shall spring out of the earth, and justice shall look down from heaven. –Psalm 85:12 The Presence of God. After the miracle of Jesus walking on water, the disciples exclaimed, “Truly, you are the Son of God” (Matthew 14:33). Most Christians will probably never experience such a dramatic miracle. Like Elijah, we await the manifestation of God in other moments. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the believer is to be constantly attuned to the possible presence of God in the everyday events of life. This is a stance that takes some people years to develop. Others seem to find the Lord easily in the simple things. As the week unfolds, let us look for the presence of God in the little things around us. Perhaps, like Elijah, we will be surprised at what we find. And, like the disciples, we can add our voice to the confession, “Truly you are the Son of God.” This being the first weekend of the month, the second collection this weekend is for the Diocesan Obligations. The second collection next weekend is designated for the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. THANK YOU Father Joseph Thalanany V.C., of the Vincentian Missionaries is grateful to our parishioners for supporting his ministry. Your generous donations of $907 will benefit missions in India and other parts of the world. You will all be remembered in Fr. Thalanany’s prayers. 125TH ANNIVERSARY JUBILEE FUND I am very grateful for last weeks donation of $2151 for the Jubilee Fund, which among many other things includes the landscaping and stairs to our Basilica. As you can see the first phase of work is in an advanced stage. I kindly invite parishioners to look at the work and express your opinions and suggestions. We are making every effort to make the environment in front of the Basilica a safe, practical, esthetic place blending with the surrounding area. Obviously, we don’t have many choices because Page 3 of the high prices of materials. Therefore, we are using whatever we have or what we can get at a discounted price. I am in contact with several places to get the paving stones which is a time consuming and tedious process. I am grateful to those of you who have already fulfilled the suggested $1000 obligation. FATIMA CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION This Friday, August 13, at 7p.m. we will pray the rosary during an outdoor procession in honor of Our Lady of Fatima. As always, we invite parishioners, friends, organizations and especially the Children of Mary to take part in this beautiful tribute to our Lady. The flowers in front of the Blessed Mother altar for Our Lady of Fatima are given in memory of Henry Sabaj by his daughter, Betty. SEPTEMBER CASH CALENDARS September Cash Calendars will be on sale beginning this week. DEAN OF STUDENTS APPOINTMENT I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Richard Skrocki, as part-time Dean of Students at St. Joseph School. He will continue to teach science to 6-8th grades. He will work with the teachers and students to enhance learning and build positive home-school relations. Mr. Skrocki has earned a Masters Degree and Administration Certificate. He is well known for his ability to effectively communicate with the students, faculty and staff. Mr. Skrocki’s career has come full circle and he looks forward to sharing his knowledge with our students and preparing them for the future. We wish Mr. Skrocki “Good Luck” in his new assignment! SCHOOL REGISTRATION St. Joseph School is accepting registrations from Pre-K throughGrade 8. The school office is open from 9-12noon. If you need assistance in the afternoon, you may call the rectory for information. In a society when the culture has lost its common sense and we witness erosion of values, the Catholic Schools stand as a beacon of stability in life to the young generation. Each child is a treasure and to provide them with the best education in the private sector is the obligation, privilege and sacred duty of the parents. It may cost a little more, but you cannot afford to waste a mind or the soul of your child. LOCAL PILGRIMAGE TO THE GROTTO OF OUR LADY The Sisters of Mercy will hold their annual Pilgrimage in Honor of Our Lady on Monday, August 15th, the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The Pilgrimage is a tradition dating back to 1901. A Pilgrimage from St. Joseph Church, 759 Main Street, Leicester, to the Grotto at Nazareth will begin at 5:15p.m. during which the Rosary will be recited on the one-mile walk. Mass will be celebrated at the Grotto with Msgr. Edmond T. Tinsley presiding. (In the event of rain, Rosary and Mass will be at St. Joseph Church beginning at 5:15p.m.) HOLY ROSARY SODALITY DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED MOTHER The members of the Holy Rosary Sodality, who have a special a devotion to the Blessed Mother of praying the rosary every day, are organizing groups of 20 people who will each say a decade of the rosary every day at their convenience. In this way a full rosary will be said every day for a special intention. You will receive a card with the decade you are to reflect on for that month. On the first weekend of every month, you will have the opportunity to exchange the card with someone in your group either at church, at an agreed upon place or just keep the decade that you have. We will renew this devotion on the first weekend in October when you will be given a card with a mystery of the Rosary and a prayer. If you would like to be part of a group, please call Betty Sabaj, (508)943-8570 by August 31, 2011. CATHOLIC YOUTH GROUP Youth Group Summer Play-The Webster Youth Group will perform a musical comedy “The Best of Broadway?” featuring songs from some of Broadway’s best musicals on Friday, August 19th at 7p.m. and Sunday, August 21st at 2p.m. Please support the youth from your parish and community by attending this great show. The play will be held at the Immaculate Conception Spiritual Renewal Center at 600 Liberty Highway (Rte. 21) in Putnam, CT. Tickets are $5 each (free for 5 and under) and will be sold at the door. Day at Beach as Passion Play Thank You-To thank the Youth Group kids who participated in the Passion Play this past spring, they are invited to Mrs. Valcour’s cottage in Old Orchard Beach on Saturday, August 27th for the day. We will carpool from St. Louis School parking lot at 7a.m. and return to Webster around 10p.m. We will spend the day at the beach and then head downtown for shopping, eating and the amusement park. Adult drivers and chaperones are needed. An e-mail will be sent to each Youth Group member personally with all the details, (Rain date-Sunday, August 28th from 7a.m.-9p.m.) Page 4 DAILY DIVINE WORSHIP During the summer months we have the opportunity to participate in Mass at 6:30 and 7:00a.m. during the week as indicated in our bulletin. St. Joseph Basilica provides music accompaniment and airconditioning. According to research attendance on Sunday and week day Masses is continually growing. I urge parishioners who are not working and who have the time, to join us at these week day Masses. In many churches weekday attendance is about 50-70 people. Many people develop the habit to come to Mass early, before they begin their daily activities, in the tranquility of the Basilica surrounded by sacred art, meditate and recite the rosary. It is a beautiful practice to begin a new day with Divine Worship and a new week with Mass. KRONIKA PARAFIALNA DZIEWI’TNASTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKºA 7 Sierpnia 2011 Obecnoу Boga. 15:00. PODZI’KOWANIE Wyraóamy wdzi“cznoу wszystkim parafianom, którzy swoimi datkami i modlitw wsparli misyjn dzia»alnoу ojca Joseph’a Thalanany ze zgromadzenia Ñw. Wincentego a’Paulo, który by» naszym goÑciem w ubieg» niedziel“. Zebrane ofiary pos»uó KoÑcio»owi w Indiach i innych cz“Ñciach Ñwiata. Bóg zap»aƒ! NABOòE¼STWO FATIMSKIE W pitek 13 sierpnia o godz. 19:00 zapraszamy wszystkich parafian do wzi“cia udzia»u w modlitwie róóa½cowej po»czonej z procesj na zewntrz koÑcio»a, odprawianej ku czci Matki Boóej Fatimskiej. Page 5 HOLY ROSARY SODALITY czci NajÑwi“tsza Maryj Pann“ i wielbi Boga poprzez codzienna modlitw“ róóa½cow. Cz»onkowie, podzieleni na dwudziestoosobowe grupy, odmawiaj codziennie jedn dziesitk“ róóa½ca. W ten sposób codziennie odmawiany jest ca»y Róóaniec. JeÑli jesteÑ zainteresowany przy»czeniem si“ do Holy Rosary Sodality skontaktuj si“ z Betty Sabaj do ko½cz sierpnia. Tel.: 508 943 8570 ZACHOWA‚ SKARBY Kaódy cz»owiek, który zmienia Ñrodowisko óycia i musi zaczƒ funkcjonowaƒ w odmiennych warunkach poddawany jest swoistej próbie dojrza»oÑci. Wzrastajc w znanym sobie Ñrodowisku, poÑród znajomych ludzi i w niezliczonych relacjach do rzeczy i wydarze½ stanowi element pewnej ca»oÑci, z któr si“ utoósamia, z któr wspó»dzia»a, w której óyje i realizuje si“. Wyzwanie zaczyna si“ wtedy, gdy ca»y ten kontekst si“ zmienia, kiedy trzeba si“ „dopasowaƒ” do nowych warunków. Cz»owiek p»ynie z prdem idei i pogldów, które choƒ atrakcyjne i pocigajce, to jednak czyni go bezwolnym w kszta»towaniu siebie i swojego wn“trza. Rozwizaniem w takiej sytuacji wydaje si“ byƒ troska o to, by nie szcz“dziƒ si» i energii na zachowanie w sobie tego, co najcenniejsze, z jednoczesnym otwarciem si“ na to, co dobre i budujce w nowym otoczeniu. Dla naszych przodków, którzy przybywali tu przed latami jasnym by»o, óe musz utrzymaƒ swój j“zyk i religi“. A zatem powstawa»y szko»y i parafie, które stawa»y si“ oÑrodkami óycia religijnego i kulturalnego. To dzi“ki nim utrzymali swoja polskoу i swoj si»“ opart na trwa»ych chrzeÑcija½skich wartoÑciach. W obecnych czasach, gdzie spo»ecze½stwa dotyka nie tylko kryzys ekonomiczny, ale równieó i na poziomie wartoÑci juó wiele si“ pogubi»o, moóe warto spojrzeƒ wstecz i zat“skniƒ do tego co polskie, co Boskie, co dawa»o si»“ naszym ojcom, a nam teraz gdzieÑ umyka. Moóe warto si“ troch“ potrudziƒ, by w swoim óyciu odkurzyƒ to co stare i wydaje si“ juó przeóyte, i nadaƒ temu nowy blask, tak by nasze narodowe skarby jakimi s nasz pi“kny j“zyk, nasza wiara i tradycje zajaÑnia»y nowym blaskiem poÑród szarej codziennoÑci. Moóe, gdy odróónimy je od innych „b»yskotek” jakie daje nam nowoczesny Ñwiat, uda si“ nam zdaƒ ten szczególny egzamin z dojrza»oÑci, który codziennie tu podejmujemy.
