PR [email protected] Press release Warsaw, 29 January 2007 Gazeta Wyborcza leads the way again December saw Gazeta Wyborcza lead the ranking „Poland’s most opinion-forming media” again after two months of absence. The first fifteen of the most willingly cited media lists as many as two television stations: TVN and TVN 24 and three radio stations: Radio ZET, RMF FM and PR1. No surprising reshuffles were noticed in the field of most opinion-forming weeklies - Wprost makes all the running. Sex-scandal in Self-Defense (Samoobrona) turned out to be the biggest scandal in December. IMM’s analysis was conducted on the basis of 6960 media transmissions covering the period from 1st to 31st December 2006. Journalists referred to information furnished by other media as many as 7817 times (3729 times in press, 2392 on television and 1696 on the radio). The first place in December ranking of the most frequently quoted media went to Gazeta Wyborcza with 1597 quotations, by which it outperformed Rzeczpospolita (1154 quotations). Gazeta Wyborcza won back the leadership again after two months. The daily was usually quoted (505 times) in the context of so-called sex-scandal in SelfDefense. Dziennik, last month’s winner of the ranking, slipped back a little to take third place with 1087 quotations. The fourth place traditionally went to Życie Warszawy (421 quotations). The list of first fifteen most frequently quoted media includes two TV stations: TVN and TVN24 and three radio stations: Radio ZET, RMF FM and PR1. Media referred the most often to information furnished by TVN on the occasion of sex-scandal in Self-Defense and to news posted by Radio ZET – in the context of information on Polish politics. Onet.pl takes the lead in the ranking of Internet portals outrunning Interia.pl. Nevertheless the result was insufficient to have the portal enter the first fifteen. Onet.pl was usually quoted in the context of curiosities, sports and public issues. However it has to be pointed out that the difference in quotations between Wprost and Newsweek Polska, which is ranked second, is not very significant and amounts to 6 quotations. Fourth, high position of Gazeta Polska, as regards quotations other than press reviews, also deserves paying attention to. In December, the newspaper mostly owned it to articles on spy past of archbishop Stanislaw Wielgus. In general ranking, the weekly took significant fifth position. The tabloids which fiercely competed with each other, namely Super Express and Fakt, have switched places, as the first one outperformed the latter by one quotation. Media usually referred to information supplied by other media in press reviews, when reporting on Polish politics and in the context of sex-scandal in Self-Defense.
