Stable leadership, tabloids keep fighting
Following a period of absence, Trybuna and Super Express are back in the leadership of the ranking of
the most frequently quoted media. Daily Rzeczpospolita again leads the breakdown compiled by the
Institute of Media Monitoring.
July study covers 5309 press releases, as well as radio and television broadcasts where the news posted by
other media were quoted 6502 times - 2816 in press, 2313 on TV and 1373 on the radio.
In July, Rzeczpospolita remained the most frequently quoted media with 1194 number of journalists’
references. The daily’s information was mentioned in press reviews and in the context of rankings and the
Polish politics. The quoted publications also refered to the vetting trial of Zyta Gilowska.
Gazeta Wyborcza was ranked second with a record of quotations inferior to Rzeczpospolita’s by 59 times.
Alike the leader of July breakdown, Gazeta Wyborcza was the most frequently quoted within the frames of
press reviews but also in the context of the Polish politics. Dziennik and Życie Warszawy took respectively
third and fourth place, however the gap between the two dailies and the ranking’s leaders is considerableeach newspaper was quoted 500 times more seldom than the leaders.

Trybuna took the fifth, high, position in the ranking with 198 references. Super Express also improved its
position in the ranking by scoring 182 references, which sent the newspaper to the seventh place and gave it
the title of the leader among tabloids.
Rzeczpospolita also won in the ranking of media quoted the most frequently excluding press releases.

Ranking of the most frequently quoted radio stations remained unaltered. Radio ZET holds the first place
followed directly by PR3. Minor reshuffle was observed at the top of the breakdown of the most frequently
quoted television stations – TVN24 was dethroned by TVN. Onet.pl held down the first place of all Internet
portals being followed closely by Interia.pl.
July had media report on Zyta Gilowska’s vetting, a cooperation of priests with Poland’s Security Services
(SB), a scandal linked to Tageszeitung’s publication on the President of RP Lech Kaczyński. The journalists
often referred to other media’s news when discussing Polish Football Association (PZPN) scandals and PZU
issues. Mentions in press reviews and Polish politics constituted the most frequent subject of references.

Newsweek followed to be the most frequently quoted national weekly in Poland. It outperformed Wprost and
Polityka - which did not take any of the first 15 positions of the breakdown.
National media were quoted the most frequently – 5512 times, whereas local and regional media scored 990
quotations. Great majority of local media quotations came from Mazowiecki region where Życie Warszawy
became the leader.
Each month, Instytut Monitorowania Mediów analyses all newspapers, as well as TV and radio broadcasts, which
authors refer to the news spread by other media. The research covers about 700 newspapers, TV stations and selected
