BLESSED SACRAMENT
We are having the exposition and adoration of the
Blessed Sacrament on Wednesdays, from 6:00pm
to 8:00pm. Silence and prayer spent in front of the
Blessed Sacrament is the best opportunity to
prepare ourselves to be open to the Lord's graces.

address and envelope ID number and one will
be mailed.

Parish, we are unable to track your offertory

OUTREACH PROGRAM
I know this has been a rough week for everybody. The
poor commuters who spent six to ten hours on the LIE
or, for that matter, any of the roads during the snowfall.
Very few people were not affected by the weather this
week.
This is the time that brings our thoughts to the homeless
in our community. The police are very good about
seeking shelter for these people and getting them out of
the freezing temperatures. However, we still need to
feed and clothe them. For this reason we are asking you
to contribute nourishing easy-to-eat food for us to give
to them. For example, we need nourishing drinks (with
pop-top lids or in cartons), breakfast bars, puddings,
peanut butter and jelly (here, we will supply the bread
or rolls) canned soups, etc.

CURSO DE CATOLICISMO
Empezando 1 de febrero, a las 7 pm en el sótano de
la iglesia, vamos a ofrecerles el curso de catequesis
basado en la película llamada CATOLICISMO. Es una
serie de DIEZ CLASES en las cuales vamos a ver la
película y explicar las verdades principales de nuestra
fe Católica. Lo ofrecemos también como un curso
compensativo para los adultos que necesitan
prepararse para los sacramentos de la Iglesia Católica.
El curso es gratuito para todos! Los que necesitan
preparase para un sacramento deben hablar primero
con el sacerdote. Los interesados en comprar el
manual para esta clase tienen que registrarse y pagar
$20.

SING A NEW SONG TO THE LORD! Our Liturgy this week reflects hope and joy. Both the first reading and the Gospel contain the same scripture lines: “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light . . .” And the first reading continues “You have brought them abundant joy and great rejoicing”. What is this abundant joy and great rejoicing? It is the promise received last month at Christmas and continued during the past weeks, leading up to the proclamation that Jesus is the Lamb of God. There is a song that says “When the angels’ song is silent and the music leaves the sky, then the promise of Christmas begins . . .” In the long version of the Gospel we hear Jesus calling Peter and his brother Andrew to follow him, and then James and his brother John. They left their boat and their father and followed him. Living in a boating and fishing community, many of us should be able to relate to this scene (except for the 9 degree temperature and foot of snow outside). Imagine yourself on your boat on a summer evening, having just returned from an enjoyable day on the water. You are cleaning your boat or cleaning fish. Jesus comes along and says “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men”. Would you be ready to leave your boat and follow? In truth, we have already received this call from Jesus in our Baptism. Our way of abandoning our boat and following Him may not be the same as it was for the first apostles. But it is the same call to live in relationship with Jesus, and to tell the Good News to all who will listen. Agnes Scheuermann
