SACRIFICIAL OFFERINGS - July 5, 2009
Weekly $4925.60 (including $380.60 in loose money), Fuel $321;
Diocesan Obligations $1095 .50(including $76.50 in loose money).
Thank you for your faithful stewardship to Saint Joseph Basilica,
especially your much needed offerings for the Diocesan
Obligations.
Stewardship Note. "He instructed them to take nothing for the
journey but a walking stick - no food, no sack, no money in the
belts. ' ( Mark 6:8). How different we are from the Apostles who
took nothing when they ventured out to serve God. Today, we
make our journey through life more difficult because of all the
material baggage that we drag along. Yet, the more we give away,
the freer we are to serve God with love and joy.
FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
July 12, 2009
Truth shall spring out of the earth,
and justice shall look down from heaven.
—Psalm 85:121
Called by God. Today's scriptures invite us to listen to two
calls. The first is the call issued by the Lord to the prophet
Amos, the "shepherd and a
dresser of sycamores" (Amos
(J5
1E
7:14). The second is the call the
i
Lord Jesus issued to the Twelve,
..\ •
whom he sent out "two by two"
(Mark 6:7). These faithful people
responded to the call,
1
prophesying and preaching to the
people to whom they had been
sent. Each of us received a call when we were baptized. The
second reading invites us to ponder that call as we are
reminded that we are chosen in Christ and that, in love, God
"destined us for adoption" (Ephesians 1:5). As adopted
daughters and sons of God we are called to bring the
presence of Christ into our marriages, families, schools, and
places of work. Let us be inspired today to say "yes" to the
call we hear once again through God's living word.

CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
The traditional outdoor candlelight procession in honor of Our
Lady of Fatima will be held Monday at 7 p.m. In case of inclement
weather, the services will be held in church. Sister Lucia wrote in
her book 'Calls': .. the Message tells us 'Pray and make
sacrifices' so that, through your prayers, your words, your example,
your acts of self-denial, your work and your charity, you will be
able to help your brothers and sisters to get up again if they have

SAINT JOSEPH GARDEN OF PEACE
The main gate at the entrance to the cemetery was severely
damaged on Monday, July 6tl, around 12:30 p.m. by a white truck
that had unusual height and was leaving the cemetery apparently
with considerable speed. We presume the truck suffered
considerable damage. The driver escaped without reporting the
incident. The Police Department is investigating the incident. If
anyone witnessed or has information about this accident please call
Kevin Rekowski at the cemetery or the rectory.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!
With deep regret I have accepted the resignation of Mr. Ed
Breault as a lector at Saint Joseph Basilica for health reasons. He
served for almost 40 years in this ministry. In addition, he was
always very helpful in assisting the rectory and the Church through
his many skills under the spiritual leadership of the last three
pastors. May his dedication to the Church be rewarded by God with
the gift of good health and many friends.

WORD OF LIFE
The Church is a loving mother who has a zest for life and serves
life everywhere, but she can become a protective "Mamma bear"
when the life of her innocent, helpless cubs is threatened. Everyone
in this mega-community is a somebody with an extraordinary
destiny. Everyone is a somebody in whom God has invested an
infinite love. That is why the Church reaches out to the unborn, the
suffering, the poor, our elders, the physically and emotionally
challenged, those caught in the web of addictions.
—Most Rev. Timothy M. Dolan, Archbishop of New York

BAPTISMS
We welcome the following children into the Saint Joseph Basilica
family who recently became the children of God by receiving the
sacrament of baptism: Daniel Richard Musial, Jacob Jan Perry, Brett A.
McCarthy, Brooke Lynn Guertin. We pray that together with their
parents they will grow in the love of God and enjoy His blessings.
A PRAYER FOR PRIESTS AND PRIESTLY VOCATIONS
Heavenly Father, please grant to Your faithful servants,
the grace and strength to carry out Your mission
for the church each day.
Keep our priests close to You
and continue to inspire them to serve others
in Your holy name.
Please help to inspire men
who are called to a priestly vocation to answer
Your call and participate in the fullness
that you have planned for them. Amen
SCHOOL NEWS
The downturn of our economy has prompted us to look at ways to
financially help parents and guardians who are sending their children to
Saint Joseph School. A new tuition scale for 2009-20 10 has been put
into effect as of June 1, 2009 and should be helpful to parents with two
children. Up to the present time parishioners of St. Andrew Bobola did
not have a discounted tuition rate as parents of children of St. Joseph.
The parishioner rate will now be granted to the supporting parishioners
of Saint Andrew Bobola Parish in Dudley since these two parishes have
become one cluster under Diocesan Policy. Additionally, the afterschool program offers a new rate structure and the service hours policy
has been revised. Letters have been sent to all parents who currently
have children enrolled in St. Joseph School. Parents who would like to
reconsider their options in view of the new changes may contact the
school 508-943-0378 or the rectory.
