XIII. Pieta
Thirty three years flash before His mother’s mind and heart.
She held Him at birth. She sang lullabies.
She holds Him in her arms now that His body is lifeless…
The memories collide with the present.
She was told this would happen in the beginning.
The reality in her arms now has sunken in…
His suffering has ended but her heart is still breaking.
She removes the crown of thorns ever so carefully—not an easy task.
It finally removed, Mary brushes back Jesus’ hair…
His eyelids are already swollen shut, so she needn’t close them .
She looks at her baby and bursts into tears.
She covers His body with her veil and recalls the many lullabies...
Time stands still as the Mother holds her Son...
The two slashes on her cheek become a reservoir for her tears....
It will soon be time to continue the divine plan…

PASTORAL MESSAGE
We Are A “Pentecostal”
Church
To say that the Roman Catholic
Church is a Pentecostal Church may
surprise some Catholics, because they
think only of some Evangelical Churches,
which specifically are called Pentecostal.
The Roman Catholic Church is certainly
a Pentecostal Church in the sense that it
accepts the Pentecost experience as integral and vital to it’s life as a Church.
The liturgical celebration of Pentecost is considered to be a solemnity, the highest grade of festivity in the liturgical calendar. It
is also the high point of the 50-day Easter Season and brings a closure to that season.
What is Pentecost all about? Why is this solemnity very important to the Church?
Pentecost is about the Holy Spirit and the other members of
the most holy Trinity. The Holy Spirit is the bond and personal
expression of love between the Father and the Son.
Originally Pentecost was an agrarian feast celebrated at harvest time as a festival of thanksgiving. Later in time this feast was
associated with the Mosaic renewal of the covenant between God
and His people. From this point of view Pentecost is a harvest
feast of the Church whose members the Holy Spirit binds in love.
In terms of covenant it is a reminder of the last and eternal covenant by which God has bound himself to his harvested people,
through Jesus the Christ, who has sent the Holy Spirit to be an A dvocate (a defender) of the members of the Church and to lead them
in the spirit of truth and holiness.
Pentecost is also considered to be the birthday of the Church.
Even though it is true that the Church was born on the cross from the
side of Jesus, Pentecost is a celebration of the Church’s birth through
the bestowal of the Holy Spirit, who invigorated the Church from
the dead body of Jesus. After the death of Jesus the apostles and
those gathered in the upper room were as if dead or paralyzed by
fear. They didn’t realize that they were the new glorified body of the
Christ, the new Church. The coming of the Holy Spirit upon them
was a life-giving experience through which they realized who they
were. The Holy Spirit continues to give life to the Church and an
awareness of who it is in each age and brings it to glory.
On a solemnity as this all members of the Church ought to give
thanks and express gratefulness for the Holy Spirit and for the
Church, the harvest of Christ, with whom God has established a
never ending covenant with the Church. We are only as good
members of the Church as we recognize the presence of the Holy
Spirit in the Church and allow the Holy Spirit to work in the Church
and in our individual lives for the benefit of the world. In other
words, we need to recognize that we are a Pentecostal Church!
How practically recognize this? We need to grow consciously
in practice in our relationship with the Church and view it as an
extension of and a communion with God’s Trinitarian life. We need
to commune with the Holy Spirit daily through the practice of
prayer and through participating regularly in the Saturday/Sunday
Eucharist. We need to see the Holy Spirit working in other people
and we need to acknowledge His presence within them. We need to
witness to the Holy Spirit in word and deed to give him an opportunity to work on and to renew the face of the earth.. May the Holy
Spirit enable us to accomplish this!

PRZYJDZ, DUCHU SWIETY!
Niedziela Zeslania Ducha
Swietego to ostatnia niedziela okresu
wielkanocnego. Jutro zaczyna sie
c z a s z w y kly w ciagu roku
koscielnego. Wielkanoc to liturgiczny
szczyt calego roku.
Kosciól na calym swiecie
wola: „Przyjdz, Duchu Swiety!!!”
Papieska Msza sw. na krakowskich
Bloniach w ostatnia niedziele z udzialem Ojca sw. Benedykta
XVI przypomniala mi wolanie jego poprzednika na tym samym
miejscu: „Niech zstapi Duch Swiety i odnowi oblicze ziemi, tej
ziemi.”
Benedykt XVI byl w Polsce w dniach 25-28 maja. Duzo
ludzi na calym swiecie zadawalo sobie pytanie: „Jak Polacy
przyjma nowego papieza?” Wszyscy wiedzieli, Polacy kochali i
kochaja Jana Pawla II, poniewaz byl Polakiem. A co bedzie z
jego nastepca? Jak on zostanie przyjety? Po wizycie mozemy
powiedziec: Benedykt XVI zdobyl serca Polaków.
Rozmawialem ze swoim wspólbratem, z którym jestesmy w
Niemczech w jednym klasztorze i on powiedzial: „Super,
Janowi Pawlowi II. „Pragnalem oddychac powietrzem jego
Ojczyzny. Pragnalem patrzec na ziemie, na której sie urodzil
i na której dorastal do podjecia niestrudzonej sluzby
Chrystusowi i Jego Kosciolowi Powszechnemu” – powiedzial
Ojciec sw. w czasie Mszy sw. na Bloniach. Bylo to takze
uszanowanie Polaków. „Pragnalem przede wszystkim spotkac
zywych ludzi, jego Rodaków, zakosztowac waszej wiary,
z której wyrósl i upewnic sie, czy w niej trwacie” –
uslyszelismy dalej.
Ale to oczywiscie nie wszystko. Ojciec sw. powiedzial do
nas bardzo wazne rzeczy. „Chcialem tez z tego miejsca prosic
Boga, by zachowal w was dziedzictwo wiary, nadziei i milosci,
jakie pozostawil swiatu, a wam szczególnie, Jan Pawel II.”
przypomnial Papiez, wiara to przyjecie prawdy objawionej,
zgoda umyslu na te prawde. Jest to jeden wymiar, który
angazuje bardziej umysl. Drugi aspekt wiary to zaufanie tej
Osobie, w która sie wierzy. Ten akt jest bardziej „sprawa
serca”.
Ten papieski apel do Polaków o swiadectwo wiary jest
wyrazem zaufania Ojca sw. do naszego narodu. Jestesmy
swiadomi naszej slabosci. Dlatego, aby nie zawiesc
pokladanego w nas zaufania, potrzebujemy Ducha Swietego,
którego zaslanie dzisiaj obchodzimy. Jezus obiecal swoim
uczniom: „Duch Swiety zstapi na was, otrzymacie Jego moc
i bedziecie moimi swiadkami w Jerozolimie i w calej Judei, i w
Samarii, i az po krance ziemi” (Dz 1, 8). Prosmy i my wytrwale
i z zaufaniem: „Przyjdz, Duchu Swiety!”.

FOUR EAGLES FOLLOW-UP
On Friday, May 5, 2006 many members of the parish community gathered at
the Pope John Paul II Polish American Cultural Center to celebrate the fourth annual
Four Eagles Award Ceremony and banquet. Participants enjoyed an outstanding meal
and an opportunity to visit with friends and Friars. Fr. Leslie Hoppe, OFM, Provincial
Minister of the Assumption Province, accepted the Four Eagles Award on behalf of
both the Assumption and Sacred Heart Provinces of the Franciscans in honor of the
100 years of ministry they have provided to the parish of St. Stanislaus. After viewing
a slide program of Friar sons of the parish, Fr. Leslie commented on the number of
men the parish had provided for ministry within the Assumption Province but noted
that unfortunately most of them were now in the cemetery in Pulaski, WI. He issued a
call for vocations to again come from the parish.
Many thanks from the planning committee to all those who attended or
helped in any way to make this event a success and save the first Friday of May for
next year’s banquet.
LOLLY THE TROLLY AND CORPUS CHRISTI
Lolly the Trolly will be available for anyone unable to walk the entire route
of our annual Corpus Christi Procession on June 18th, but we ask that you reserve your seat in advance by calling Chris Luboski at (216) 407-1144 as soon
as possible, as seating is limited to 38 people. A name tag will be mailed to you

at 11:00 AM. The procession should begin around 11:30 AM. If you are attending the 10:30 AM Mass that day, please make your way to the trolley immediately after the Mass. If you are attending the procession only, you may board the
