DIOCESAN ADVENT RECONCILIATION MONDAY
On Monday, December 19th, every parish of the
Brooklyn diocese will offer the Sacrament of Reconciliation to those who want to avail themselves of this additional opportunity to prepare for the birth of Our Lord,
Jesus Christ on Christmas. Confessions will be heard in
the lower church (multilingual) from 6:00PM to 8:00PM.
TRUST IN GOD
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
On this final Sunday of Advent our scriptures focus on
the historical birth of Jesus, who is son of David and Son
of God, child and king, Jesus and Emmanuel.
Isaiah the prophet begs Ahaz to ask for a sign, to allow
God to offer him reassurance of the survival of the
Davidic dynasty. The king hypocritically refuses to
“tempt the LORD” in that way (Isaiah 7:12), but the
prophet foretells the birth of a son, an heir to the throne,
who will prove the Lord’s enduring protection of God’s
chosen lineage on the throne of David. The child will be
called Emmanuel.
Matthew’s reference to this history in his description
of the birth of Jesus highlights the contrast between the
faithless refusal of trust shown by Ahaz, and the complete
trust in God shown by Mary and Joseph in bringing about
the birth of Jesus Christ.
How many languages do you know? Most Americans
might say they have a primary language, can follow the
basics of another encountered in school or in the
workplace, and maybe know the barest elements of a
third. Yet nearly everyone is fluent in languages of
symbol and ritual, languages that transcend the spoken
word and may perhaps communicate more clearly. A
dance, the delights of the table, the thrill of sport, the
power of a painting, a shared silence on a surf-washed
beach or under a desert sky, a burst of delighted applause,
all communicate without a single word.
Sacrament empowers fluency in these languages. A
little girl returning from Mass where a baby had been
baptized was asked to summarize her day thus far. “I went
to church, and some little baby became my brother.”
That’s far more accurate than the adult’s remark, “There
was a baptism at Mass today.” When we celebrate
sacrament, Christ is always calling us into deeper fluency
with the languages beyond speech. Sacraments open our
senses to the presence of God precisely so we can respond
to the depth of that love more fully.

CHRISTMAS
A young mother, her eyes shining with fatigue, who is
arranging her hair; a father who finds himself alone with
his pretty wife and baby, straightening the stable to make
himself useful in some way; shepherds who bring cheese
and perhaps also some curdled milk; sheep who look at
their shepherds while bleating; a donkey who is eyeing
his manger changed into a cradle; an adorable swaddled
baby whom one calls Savior, Christ and Lord: This is the
manifestation of the goodness and the tenderness of God.
This is the most fantastic birth in the history of humanity,
the one which changed the face of the world! This is how
far God humbled and compromised himself with us! This
is Emmanuel!

OPLATEK
Państwa na jazzowy koncert kolęd a następnie na
spotkanie w gronie przyjaciół przy cieście i winie w
niedzielę, 8-go stycznia, 2017, godz. 16:00 w dolnym
kościele.
Z narodzeniem Jezusa Chrystusa było tak. Po
zaślubinach Matki Jego, Maryi, z Józefem, wpierw nim
zamieszkali razem, znalazła się brzemienną za sprawą
Ducha Świętego. Mąż Jej, Józef, który był człowiekiem
sprawiedliwym i nie chciał narazić Jej na zniesławienie,
zamierzał oddalić Ją potajemnie. Gdy powziął tę myśl,
oto anioł Pański ukazał mu się we śnie i rzekł: Józefie,
synu Dawida, nie bój się wziąć do siebie Maryi, twej
Małżonki; albowiem z Ducha Świętego jest to, co się w
Niej poczęło. Porodzi Syna, któremu nadasz imię Jezus,
On bowiem zbawi swój lud od jego grzechów . A stało się
to wszystko, aby się wypełniło słowo Pańskie powiedziane
przez Proroka: Oto Dziewica pocznie i porodzi Syna,
któremu nadadzą imię Emmanuel, to znaczy: Bóg z nami.
Zbudziwszy się ze snu, Józef uczynił tak, jak mu polecił
anioł Pański: wziął swoją Małżonkę do siebie.

REFLEKSJA...
Spełnienie proroctwa o narodzeniu Mesjasza wprawia
Józefa w zakłopotanie i stawia go po stronie tych, którzy
w bezradności zdają się na niepojęte zamiary Boga. Józef
nie przejawia niezdrowej dumy ani pewności siebie, ani
triumfalizmu z powodu tego, że stał się uczestnikiem
zbawczych wydarzeń. Jest przez nie formowany ku
świętej uległości. Bóg sam zadaje problemy i sam je
rozwiązuje. Poddanie się Jego zamiarom i prowadzeniu
to najlepszy sposób na włączenie się w realizację Jego
planów.

LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura - La señal del Señor es que la virgen
estará embarazada y dará a luz un hijo varón, a quien le
pondrá el nombre de Emmanuel (Isaías 7:10-14).

Segunda lectura - Jesús, descendiente de David
biológicamente, fue establecido el Hijo de Dios en poder.

Evangelio - María, la comprometida de José, quedó
embarazada por obra del Espíritu Santo. Le pone el
nombre de Jesús porque él salvará a su pueblo (Mateo
1:18-24).

RECONCILIACIÓN DIOCESANA DEL ADVIENTO
El lunes 19 de diciembre, cada parroquia de la diócesis
de Brooklyn ofrecerá el Sacramento de la Reconciliación a
aquellos que quieran aprovechar de esta oportunidad
adicional para prepararse para el nacimiento de Nuestro
Señor Jesucristo en Navidad. Las confesiones serán
escuchadas en la iglesia de abajo (tambien en espańol) de
6:00PM a 8:00PM.
CONFIANZA EN DIOS
En este último domingo de Adviento las lecturas se
enfocan en el nacimiento histórico de Jesús: el hijo de
David e Hijo de Dios, niño y rey, Jesús y Emmanuel.
El profeta Isaías le suplica a Ajaz que pida una señal,
para permitir a Dios que le asegure la sobrevivencia de la
dinastía de David. El rey hipócrita rehúsa “tentar al
SEÑOR” de esa manera (Isaías 7:12), pero el profeta
predice el nacimiento de un hijo, un heredero al trono,
quien probará la duradera protección divina del linaje
elegido del trono de David. El niño será llamado
Emmanuel. Mateo se refiere a esta historia en su
descripción de los puntos principales del nacimiento de
Jesús que contrasta a Ajaz quien rehúsa confiar por falta
de fe, y la completa confianza en Dios que María y José
demostraron al cooperar con el nacimiento de Jesucristo.©
