St. Blaise, whose Feast Day, will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 3rd, was a
bishop in Armenia. Not much is known about
him, but there are many legends and stories
that tell us what the times were like. It was a
time of persecution for the Catholic Church.
The Roman empire was trying to get rid of the
Christians. Many faithful were martyred because they would not give up their love and
faith in Jesus Christ. .
Many stories say that St. Blaise cured a boy
who had a fish bone stuck in his throat and was choking to
death. It is because of this miraculous healing by St. Blaise that
he is considered to be the patron of throat ailments. After suffering various forms of torture, St. Blaise was beheaded in the
early 4th century.
The blessing of throats will take place after all Sunday Masses
on the weekend of January 30th and 31st and after the 7AM
and 8AM Masses on Wednesday, February 3rd..
2010 ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEAL “…

Many of our parishioners either have or
soon will receive a mailing from Cardinal

This year, the theme of the Appeal is, “…they left everything
and followed Him.” This familiar phrase from the story of the
Apostles walking away from their livelihoods and their worldly
possessions to follow Jesus is a familiar one. But, how often do
we reflect on their example as it applies to our lives. At the core
of discipleship is the practice of stewardship. Stewardship is the
recognition that all that we have is a gift from God and we are
obligated to return a significant portion of our gifts to assist in his
work. When our parish reaches its goal in cash, 100% of the
additional funds received will be returned to us for use in our
parish.
Please prayerfully consider a pledge to the 2010 Annual
Catholic Appeal. We will launch the new 2010 Campaign on the

Gospel: Luke 1:1-4; 4:14-21
In the synagogue at Nazareth, Jesus
reads aloud from the scroll of the prophet
Isaiah and announces that this Scripture is
now fulfilled.
Today's Gospel reading combines two
separate passages taken from the Gospel
of Luke. First we hear the opening verses where Luke establishes the purpose of his Gospel. His style is typical of polished
Greek and Roman literature. In this passage, we learn that
Luke may have written to a specific person, Theophilus; but the
word Theophilus may also be a general reference, functioning
as the phrase “Dear Reader” might in contemporary writing. In
Greek, the word Theophilus translates as “lover of God.”
Today's Gospel reading then skips several chapters in which
one would find the Infancy Narratives, Jesus' baptism by John,
the temptations Jesus faced in the desert, and the beginning of
Jesus' public ministry. In chapter four of Luke's Gospel, we hear
that Jesus is in his hometown of Nazareth, attending the synagogue on the Sabbath, which is said to be his custom. In this
account, we find another important clue that Jesus lived as a
faithful, observant Jew. We will continue to read from Luke's
Gospel in sequence for the next two Sundays.
As Jesus stands in the synagogue, he reads from the scroll
handed to him; it contains the words of the prophet Isaiah. At
this early moment in his ministry, Jesus announces his mission
in continuity with Israel's prophetic tradition. This reading from
Isaiah defines Jesus' ministry. We will find more evidence of
this as we continue to read from Luke's Gospel throughout the
year. Jesus' ministry will include bringing glad tidings to the
poor, liberty to captives, healing to the sick, freedom to the oppressed, and proclaiming a year acceptable to the Lord.
Through this text from Isaiah, Jesus announces God's salvation. The “year acceptable to the Lord” is a reference to the
Jewish tradition of Sabbath years and jubilee. The Sabbath
year was observed every seventh year. It was a year of rest
when land was left fallow and food stores were to be shared
equally with all. A year of Jubilee was celebrated every fiftieth
year, the conclusion of seven cycles of Sabbath years. It was a
year of renewal in which debts were forgiven and slaves were
freed.
This tradition of Jubilee is the framework for God's promise of
salvation. And yet in Jesus, something new begins. Jesus not
only announces God's salvation, he brings this salvation about
in his person. Jesus is Yahweh's Anointed One, filled with the
Spirit of God. The Kingdom of God is now at hand. It is made
present in Jesus, in his life, death, and Resurrection. Jesus will
send the Holy Spirit so that the Kingdom of God can be fulfilled.
The Holy Spirit is Jesus' gift to the Church. The Holy Spirit
enables the Church to continue the mission of Jesus. When we
do what Jesus did—bring glad tidings to the poor, liberty to captives, healing to the sick, and freedom to the oppressed—we
serve the Kingdom of God.

de componer un relato de los hechos que se
han verificado entre nosotros, siguiendo las tradiciones transmitidas por los que primero fueron
testigos oculares y luego predicadores de la Palabra. Yo también, después de comprobarlo todo exactamente desde el principio, he resuelto
escribírtelos por su orden, para que conozcas la
solidez de las enseñanzas que has recibido. En
aquel tiempo, Jesús volvió a Galilea, con la
fuerza del Espíritu; y su fama se extendió por
toda la comarca. Enseñaba en las sinagogas y
todos lo alababan. Fue Jesús a Nazaret, donde
se había criado, entró en la sinagoga, como era
su costumbre los sábados, y se puso en pie para hacer la lectura. Le entregaron el Libro del
Profeta Isaías y desenrollándolo, encontró el
pasaje donde estaba escrito: “El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque él me ha ungido. Me
ha enviado para dar la Buena Noticia a los pobres, para anunciar a los cautivos la libertad, y
a los ciegos. Para dar libertad a los oprimidos;
para anunciar el año de gracia del Señor". Y,
enrollando el libro, lo devolvió al que le ayudaba, y se sentó. Toda la sinagoga tenía los hijos
fijos en él. Y él se puso a decirles: Hoy se cumple esta escritura que acabáis de oír.

La Conversión del Pablo (25 de Enero)
Saulo, nacido en Tarso, hebreo, fariseo rigorista,
bien formado a los pies de Gamaliel, muy apasionado, ya había tomado parte en la lapidación del diácono Esteban, guardando los vestidos de los verdugos
"para tirar piedras con las manos de todos", como
interpreta agudamente San Agustín. De espíritu violento, se adiestraba
como buen cazador para cazar su presa. Con ardor indomable perseguía
a los discípulos de Jesús. Pero Saulo cree perseguir, y es él el perseguido. Thompson, en El mastín del cielo, nos presenta a Dios como infatigable cazador de almas. Y cazará a Saulo. "Cuando Jesús se evade del
grupo de sus discípulos, dice Mauriac, sube al cielo y se disuelve en la
luz, no se trata de una partida definitiva. Ya se ha emboscado en el recodo del camino que va de Jerusalén a Damasco, y acecha a Saulo, su
perseguidor bienamado. A partir de entonces, en el destino de todo hombre existirá ese mismo Dios al acecho". Mientras Saulo iba a Damasco en
persecución de los discípulos de Jesús, una voz le envolvió, cayó en
tierra y oyó la voz de Jesús: Saulo, Saulo ¿por qué me persigues? Saulo
preguntó: ¿Quién eres tú, Señor? Jesús le respondió: Yo soy Jesús a
quien tú persigues. ¿Y qué debo hacer, Señor? Pocas veces un diálogo
tan breve ha transformado tanto la vida de una persona. Cuando Saulo se
levantó estaba ciego, pero en su alma brillaba ya la luz de Cristo. "El vaso
de ignominia se había convertido en vaso de elección", el perseguidor en
apóstol, el Apóstol por antonomasia. Desde ahora "el camino de Damasco, la caída del caballo", quedarán como símbolo de toda conversión.
Quizá nunca un suceso humano tuvo resultados tan fulgurantes. Quedaba
el hombre con sus arrebatos, impetuoso y rápido, pero sus ideales estaban en el polo opuesto al de antes de su conversión. San Pablo será
ahora como un fariseo al revés. Antes, sólo la Ley. En adelante únicamente Cristo será el centro de su vida. La caída del caballo representa
para Pablo un auténtico punto sin retorno. "Todo lo que para mí era ganancia, lo tengo por pérdida comparado con Cristo. Todo lo tengo por
basura con tal de ganar a Cristo. Sólo una cosa me interesa: olvidando lo
que queda atrás y lanzándome a lo que está delante, corro hacia la meta,
hacia el galardón de Dios, en Cristo Jesús". Pablo es llamado "el Primero
después del único". La vocación de Pablo es un caso singular. Es un
llamamiento personal de Cristo. Pero no quita valor al seguimiento de
Pablo. En el Evangelio hay otros llamamientos personales del Señor,
como el del joven rico y el de Judas Iscariote, que no le siguieron o no
perseveraron. "Dios es un gran cazador y quiere tener por presa a los
más fuertes" (Holzner). Pablo se rindió: "He sido cazado por Cristo Jesús". Pero pudo haberse rebelado. Normalmente los llamamientos del
Señor son mucho más sencillos, menos espectaculares. No suelen llegar
en medio del huracán y la tormenta, sino sostenidos por la suave brisa,
por el aura tenue de los acontecimientos ordinarios de la vida, Todos
tenemos nuestro camino de Damasco. A cada uno nos acecha el Señor
en el recodo más inesperado del camino.

Wielu już starało się ułożyć opowiadanie
o zdarzeniach, które się dokonały pośród nas,
tak jak nam je przekazali ci, którzy od początku
byli naocznymi świadkami i sługami słowa. Postanowiłem więc i ja zbadać dokładnie wszystko od pierwszych chwil i opisać ci po kolei, dostojny Teofilu, abyś się mógł przekonać o całkowitej pewności nauk, których ci udzielono.
Potem powrócił Jezus w mocy Ducha do Galilei, a wieść o Nim rozeszła się po całej okolicy.
On zaś nauczał w ich synagogach, wysławiany
przez wszystkich. Przyszedł również do Nazaretu, gdzie się wychował. W dzień szabatu udał
się swoim zwyczajem do synagogi i powstał,
aby czytać. Podano Mu księgę proroka Izajasza. Rozwinąwszy księgę, natrafił na miejsce,
gdzie było napisane: Duch Pański spoczywa
na Mnie, ponieważ Mnie namaścił i posłał
Mnie, abym ubogim niósł dobrą nowinę, więźniom głosił wolność, a niewidomym przejrzenie; abym uciśnionych odsyłał wolnymi, abym
obwoływał rok łaski od Pana. Zwinąwszy księgę oddał słudze i usiadł; a oczy wszystkich w
synagodze były w Nim utkwione. Począł więc
mówić do nich: Dziś spełniły się te słowa Pisma, któreście słyszeli.

Szaweł urodził się w
Tarsie około 5-10 roku
po Chrystusie. Pochodził z żydowskiej rodziny silnie przywiązanej do tradycji. Byli niewolnikami, którzy zostali wyzwoleni. Szaweł odziedziczył po nich obywatelstwo rzymskie. Uczył się
rzemiosła - tkania płótna namiotowego. Później
przybył do Jerozolimy, aby studiować Torę. Być
może był uczniem Gamaliela. Gorliwość w
strzeżeniu tradycji religijnej sprawiła, że mając
około 25 lat stał się zdecydowanym przeciwnikiem i prześladowcą Kościoła. Uczestniczył jako
świadek w kamienowaniu św. Szczepana. Około 35 roku z własnej woli udał się z listami polecającymi do Damaszku (Dz 9, 1n; Ga 1, 15-16),
aby tam ścigać chrześcijan. U bram miasta
olśniła go nagle światłość z nieba. A gdy upadł

na ziemię, usłyszał głos: "Szawle, Szawle, dlaczego Mnie prześladujesz?" - "Kto jesteś, Panie?" - powiedział. A On: "Jestem Jezus, którego ty prześladujesz. Wstań i wejdź do miasta,
tam ci powiedzą, co masz czynić" (Dz 9, 3-6).
Po nagłym, niespodziewanym i cudownym nawróceniu przyjął chrzest i zmienił imię na Paweł.
Po trzech latach pobytu w Damaszku oraz krótkim pobycie w Jerozolimie odbył trzy misyjne
podróże: pierwszą - w latach 44-49: CyprGalacja, razem z Barnabą i Markiem; drugą w
latach 50-53: Filippi-Tesaloniki-Berea-AchaiaKorynt, razem z Tymoteuszem i Sylasem; trzecią w latach 53-58: Efez-Macedonia-KoryntJerozolima.
Św. Paweł, nazywany Apostołem Narodów, jest autorem 13 listów do gmin
chrześcijańskich, włączonych do ksiąg Nowego Testamentu.
W Palestynie Paweł został
aresztowany, przesłuchiwany przez prokuratorów Feliksa i Festusa. Dwa lata
przebywał w więzieniu w Cezarei. Gdy odwołał
się do cesarza, został deportowany drogą morską do Rzymu. Dwa lata przebywał w więzieniu
o dość łagodnym regulaminie. Uwolniony, udał
się do Efezu, Hiszpanii (?) i na Kretę. Tam
aresztowano go po raz drugi (64 r.). W Rzymie
oczekiwał na zakończenie procesu oraz wyrok.
Zginął śmiercią męczeńską przez ścięcie mieczem w tym samym roku - 67 - co św. Piotr. W
Rzymie w IV wieku szczątki Pawła Apostoła złożono w grobowcu, nad którym wybudowano bazylikę św. Pawła za Murami. Jest patronem licznych zakonów, Awinionu, Berlina, Biecza,
Frankfurtu nad Menem, Poznania, Rygi, Rzymu,
Saragossy oraz marynarzy, powroźników, tkaczy.
W ikonografii św. Paweł przedstawiany jest w
długiej tunice i płaszczu. Jego atrybutami są:
baranek, koń, kość słoniowa, miecz.

Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią niedzielę miesiąca w naszej
parafii po Mszy św. o godz.
10:00 odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i chrzestnych
do chrztu dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie się na ten
kurs prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej
półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby uczestniczyć w
kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia
dziecka.

Tak jak w każdą niedzielę tak
również i dzisiaj wychodząc z kościoła można nabyć nowy numer
Tygodnika Katolickiego
„Niedziela”. Znajdziemy tam bardzo ciekawe artykuły na temat
życia kościoła w Polsce także naszej Archidiecezji. Czytając ten
tygodnik a także inne publikacje np.:
„Różaniec”, „Anioł stróż”, „Rodzina Radia Maryja” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do Boga i Kościoła.
