Co najmniej trzy osoby zginęły

policję. W strzelalinie (terrorysta był
prawdopodobnie uzbrojony) został
ranny jeden z policjantów.

Leopold Kozłowski zostanie uhonorowany Złotym Medalem

Wybitny muzyk i kompozytor został uhonorowany przez Ministra Kultury
Bogdana Zdrojewskiego najwyższym odznaczeniem przyznawanym za
osiągnięcia kulturalne. Leopold Kozłowski od wielu lat wykonuje i nagrywa
muzykę klezmerską (m.in. ostatnio stworzył dwupłytowy album Ostatni Klezmer
Galicji), był autorem muzyki do filmu Austeria, współpracował z twórcami muzyki
do Listy Schindlera. Minister Kultury docenił Kozłowskiego również za
"propagowanie polskiej kultury i polskości".

Rząd postanawia o dokonaniu wymiany więzionych żołnierzy

W niedzielę 29 czerwca 2008 izraelski rząd
zaakceptował, zdecydowaną większością
głosów, zarys umowy o uwolnieniu
żołnierzy pojmanych przez Hezbollah
prawie dwa lata temu.
Zgodnie z umową do Izraela wrócą Eldad
Regew i Ehud Goldwasser, zostaną
udzielone informacje na temat zaginionego
lotnika Roda Arada oraz przekazane zostaną szczątki żołnierzy, którzy zginęli
podczas drugiej wojny w Libanie.

Izrael natomiast zgodził się uwolnić do Libanu skazanego terrorystę Samira
Kuntara, czterech innych terrorystów i ciała dziesiątków bojowników Hezbollahu.
Izrael poinformuje również Sekretarza Generalnego ONZ o losie czterech
zaginionych irańskich dyplomatów, a po dokonanej wymianie zołnierzy zwolni
palestyńskich więźniów (ich liczba i tożsamość nie będzie podana publicznie).
Izrael starał się dojść do porozumienia szybko i na najbardziej korzystnych
warunkach. Zrezygnowanie z zawarcia porozumienia teraz mogłoby znacznie
utrudnić sytuację i pogorszyć szanse przyszłych rozmów. Mimo to koszty
zawartego porozumienia są wysokie, szczególnie zwolnienie Samira Kuntara.
Zamordował on czterech izraelskich obywateli- czteroletnią dziewczynkę i jej
ojca,
Kuntar jest też odpowiedzialny za śmierć jej dwuletniej siostry,
zadławionej przypadkowo podczas chowania się przed terrorystami. Uwolnienia
właśnie tego człowieka domaga się Hezbollah i z jego wolności cieszą się
arabscy ekstremiści.
Rada Ministrów, zatwierdzając tę umowę, chciała przekazać wiadomość
żołnierzom swojej Armii i ich rodzinom, że Izrael będzie robił wszysko, co w
jego mocy, aby sprowadzić swoje dzieci do domu. Odpowiedzialność za swoich
żołnierzy to jest najwyższą wartością, opartą na moralnych podstawach
Państwa Izraela i żydowskiej wiary. Prawdziwa siła Izraela leży w
przestrzeganiu tych wartości.
Władze będą nadal starały się uzyskać wiarygodne informacje o losie lotnika
Rona Arada i doprowadzić do uwolnienia młodego żołnierza Gilada Shalita,
więzionego w Gazie, oraz innych zaginionych w akcji.

wręczył medal i dyplom honorowy
"Sprawiedliwy Wśród Narodów Świata"
pani Zofii Drzewieckiej. Jest ona ostatnim
żyjącym członkiem rodziny, która została
uhonorowana tym zaszczytnym tytułem.
Paweł i Wacława Sobolewscy oraz troje
ich dzieci – Antoni, Aleksander i Zofia –
uratowali od Zagłady Israela Brennera i
Chaima
Wróbla.
Patronat
nad
uroczystością objął Wojewoda Podlaski
oraz Burmistrz Brańska.
Dzień później, 23 czerwca, miało miejsce uroczyste przekazanie odznaczenia
"Sprawiedliwi Wśród Narodów Świata" na ręce przedstawicieli władz miasta
Dzierżoniowa. Tego dnia uhonorowano pośmiertnie Marię i Konstantego
Supruniuk, którzy w czasie II wojny światowej przechowywali w swoim
gospodarstwie 11 osób pochodzenia żydowskiego. Wśród zgromadzonych w
Ratuszu gości znaleźli się trzej ocaleni – Shlomo Turbiner, Pinkus Turbiner i
Mike Ruzinek.

3 killed as bulldozer driven by terrorist tramples over
pedestrians in Jerusalem

Three people were killed and over 50
wounded in a terror attack in
Jerusalem shortly before noon.
Driving a bulldozer on Jaffa Road
between the Central Bus Station and
the Mahane Yehuda market, a
terrorist plowed into cars and
pedestrians as well as two public
buses (Egged buslines 13 and 60)
carrying some 50 passengers. Police
shot and killed the terrorist.
The bulldozer had plowed into two
public buses carrying passengers, overturning one of them. He crushed a
number of cars with their drivers still in them, and targeted several pedestrians
chasing them down and running them over. Among his innocent victims was an
infant, who was injured in the attack and taken to hospital. Eyewitnesses told
police that in her last moments, the murdered mother saved her baby by
throwing the child out the car window just before the bulldozer crushed her to
death. The reign of terror in downtown Jerusalem only ended when police
climbed onto the rampaging vehicle, and shot and killed the terrorist.

Leopold Kozłowski will be honoured with Golden Medal of Merit
to the Culture Gloria Artis

An outstanding musician and composer has been honoured by the Minister of
Culture Bogdan Zdrojewski with the highest decoration given for cultural
achievements. Leopold Kozlowski has been performing and recording klezmer
music for many years (lately publishing an album The Last Klezmer of Galicia),
wrote the music to Jerzy Kawalerowicz's Austeria and consulted authors of
Schindler's List. The Minister of Culture appreciated Kozlowski for "propagating
Polish culture and Polishness".

Israel resolves to bring captives Home

On Sunday, June 29, 2008, the Israeli
government
approved,
by
an
overwhelming majority, the outline of an
agreement on releasing soldiers abducted
by Hizbullah nearly two years ago.

Goldwasser, will be returned to Israel, a
report on the missing Israeli airman, Rod
Arad, will be delivered to Israel and the remains of soldiers from the Second War
in Lebanon will also be received.
For its part, Israel will release the convicted terrorist Samir Kuntar, four other
Lebanese terrorists and the bodies of dozens of infiltrators and terrorists
(including eight Hizbullah members) will be returned to Lebanon. Israel will also
give the UN Secretary-General information on four missing Iranian diplomats
and, after the exchange, release Palestinian prisoners (the identity and number
of Palestinians will be at Israel's exclusive discretion.)
Israel aspired to reach a deal as quickly and on the most favorable terms
possible. Rejecting the current deal could have meant a lengthy delay and a
more painful price tag. Still, the cost of the agreement is indeed painful. There
are misgivings over the need to release a cold-blooded killer such as Samir
Kuntar, who murdered four Israeli citizens, smashing the skull of a 4 year-old girl
after murdering her father in front of her eyes. He also bears direct responsibility
for the death of her two year-old sister, who was smothered by their mother as
they hid from the terrorists. This is the man whose brutality is celebrated by Arab
extremists and whose release is sought by Hizbullah.
However, the Cabinet endorsed the prisoner exchange in order to send a
message to IDF soldiers and their families, a message that says Israel will
always do everything in its power to bring its sons and daughters home. Israel's
regards its responsibility to its servicemen and women as a supreme value, one
that stems from the moral foundations of the State of Israel and from the Jewish
faith. Israel's true strength lies in its respect for its core values and its sense of
morality.
The Israeli government remains steadfast in its commitment to obtain reliable
information on the fate of Ron Arad and to continue working for the release of
the young soldier, Gilad Shalit, abducted to Gaza. No effort will be spared to find
them and the other MIAs and to bring them home.
June 2008 Righteous Among the Nations Ceremonies

On Sunday, June 22nd in the cultural
center of the city of Bransk, the Israeli
Ambassador has honoured Mrs. Zofia
Drzewiecka with the Righteous Among the
Nations medal and diploma. Mrs.
Drzewiecka is the last living member of the
Righteous family. Pawel and Waclawa
Sobolewski together with their three
children saved from death Israel Brenner
and Chaim Wrobel. The ceremony was
held under a patronage of Podlasie
voivode and the Mayor of Bransk.
On the following day, June 23rd, Righteous Among the Nations decoration has
been handed to the authorities of the city of Dzierzoniow. The title of the Righteous
was granted post mortem to the family of Maria and Konstanty Supruniuk, who
during the WWII provided shelter for eleven Jews. Among the people gathered on
the Ceremony were present three survivors saved by the Supruniuk familyShlomo Turbiner, Pinkus Turbiner and Mike Ruzinek.
