Workshop organized in the framework of the EU Marie Curie Research Training Network ULTRASMOOTH - http://www.ultrasmooth.org under contract MRTN-CT-2003-504462 Workshop on SMOOTHING & CHARACTERIZATION of MAGNETIC FILMS for ADVANCED DEVICES 4-6 July 2007 Kraków, Poland organized by Faculty of Physics and Applied Computer Science, AGH University of Science and Technology, Kraków Second announcement SCOPE Most of spintronic devices are based on ultra-thin magnetic films. The quality of the interfaces of those layers is of crucial importance for the performance of the device. The workshop will discuss the development of novel growth methods and post-growth smoothing techniques which improve the interface quality. Also advanced characterization techniques, essential for the evaluation of the effectiveness of the smoothing methods, will be addressed. A special session on novel devices and applications will be organized. The workshop aims at disseminating the knowledge of state of the art in smoothing and characterization techniques for magnetic films in advanced devices among the larger scientific community. The participation of early stage researchers and young scientists from the new EU member states is strongly encouraged. TOPICS • Growth of magnetic films • Post-growth processing and smoothing of surfaces • Advanced characterization of magnetic films • Spintronic devices • Miscellanea INVITED SPEAKERS • Józef Barnaś, Poznań, Poland • Russell Cowburn, London, UK • Thibaut Devillers, Grenoble, France • Tomasz Dietl, Warsaw, Poland • Jaroslav Fabian, Regensburg, Germany • Paola Luches, Modena, Italy • Katharina Theis-Bröhl, Bochum, German PROGRAM Scientific program of the workshop is available on our website http://www.ultrasmooth.ftj.agh.edu.pl FORMAT The workshop will consists of • invited lectures, •keytalks, •oral contributions and • two poster sessions.
