Monday I spent the evening surfing the Internet on the family desktop PC in the living room. What was I looking for? 1) ………… That’s just what I need to go on the desk in my room instead of a big monitor. I’ve found one with a nice screen and a keyboard that’s just the right size. The question is – will I have saved up enough money to get it by Christmas? Tuesday My sister Alice is mad about her MP3 player. She’ll probably get married to it one day. Well, I certainly won’t! She drives me up the wall with her music all day long. So once when my girlfriend Liz rang, I got irritated over something stupid and she hung up on me! 2) …………. How annoying! Wednesday I had a bad start to the day when I accidentally dropped my digital camera and it broke. Luckily, I’m getting an underwater camera for my birthday but I still need to make a decision about which camera to buy. 3) ………… You see, I’ll be using it when I go scuba diving next month so I don’t want to make a mistake. Thursday We had fun on Thursday! I was installing a new programme onto the PC when suddenly our Labrador puppy, George, started running energetically around the living room. To start with, he played with the computer cable. 4) …………. This happened while I was charging it again. Still, my next mobile will have a better battery and George will have to stay in the kitchen from now on! Friday I had a great evening on my Nintendo Wii – I’m doing my best to get fit. My mate John came round to play against me. 5) ………… I made a few mistakes there, but never mind. I’ll start practising hard from tomorrow and soon I’ll have learnt all there is to know about Wii sports. Then I’ll be the winner! Saturday Don’t get rid of any old gadgets – they may come in handy again one day! On Saturday I played some online games on Xbox Live. I was competing against players from all over the world! 6) ………… Families are good fun – sometimes! By the way, my new computer course starts tomorrow. I know it’s going to be exciting so watch this space! One of the stories that lies behind this is the amazing success of writer Stephenie Meyer whose vampire trilogy, The Twilight Saga (85 million copies sold), has been made into successful films. There are many similarities between The Twilight Saga and the Harry Potter books. Like J.K. Rowling, Stephenie Meyer had to work hard for her success and sent the first story to fifteen publishers until, at last, one of them accepted her book! The Twilight Saga was originally written for teenagers, but again, as is the case with Harry Potter, there are plenty of adults who have fallen under its spell and enjoyed its simple, but charming, love story as it tells the tale of Bella and Edward, the teenage vampire and the progress of their relationship through the series. One big difference is that though The Twilight Saga is a fantasy in so far as the hero is a vampire, it is firmly rooted in reality and deals with the real world of young people today. All the joy and pain of first love is there, teenage rebellion and the anxieties that come with growing up, but also plenty of excitement and suspense to keep the reader reading!
