Stewardship Note: “None of you can be my disciple if you do
not renounce all your possessions.” What I have is actually
God’s. The renunciation is realizing we are only managers of
what we have and not owners.
TWENTY-THIRD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 8, 2013
Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for
joy and gladness all our day.
-Psalm 90:14
Perpetual Light of the Blessed Sacrament
Week of September 8—In Memory of Frank Dawicki
Given by Ted and Helen Dawicki
ATTITUDE CHANGE
Today’s readings ask us to re-think our attitudes and ways. The passage from the book of
Wisdom reminds us that, when it comes to understanding, even the wisest person barely
scrapes the surface of things.
In Paul’s provocative little letter to Philemon,
the apostle praises Philemon for his understanding of the social
order—which included slavery—and for his good treatment of
Onesimus. Then Paul goes on to drop his bombshell. He tells
Philemon that Onesimus is now a Christian and should be
treated as such—as a brother, an equal. What was Philemon to
think?
Today’s Gospel tells us that if we are to follow Jesus, we
must do some serious planning. Then, once all our planning is
complete, we have to be willing to accept the fact that our plans
are never enough.
PRAYER AND FASTING FOR PEACE IN SYRIA
Most Rev. Robert McManus asks that we set aside a day this
week for praying and fasting for peace in Syria. He invites
each person, including our fellow Christians, followers of other
religions and all men of good will, to participate, in whatever
way they can in this initiative. Pope Francis requesting a day of
fasting in the intention of peace said, “Praying and fasting is an
individual choice we can make to invoke the Holy Spirit to inspire those in power that they may find a peaceful resolution
through diplomacy.”
PARISH COUNCIL INSTALLATION
Today, Sunday, Sept. 8 at the 8:15am Liturgy the new Parish
Council will be installed. At the renovation of the Basilica the
Parish Council played a crucial part. Similarly at the construction of the new gym and other activities the Parish Council will
again play a vital role in the decision making process.
FAMILY MASS
On Sunday, Sept. 8th at 9:30am Mass we will celebrate our
first Family Mass of this new academic year. We ask parents of
our school children to join us for Divine Worship asking God
for special blessings for all children. Following tradition our
the Faculty take the oath of fidelity through the Doctrine of the
Church.
The Annual Family Picnic for student’s and their families
will begin at noon through 3:00pm at the Webster Lake Memorial Beach for an afternoon of fun and camaraderie.
Page 3
GYMNASIUM UPDATE
Finally you may have noticed some movement on the construction site during the last few days. The Lauring Company
is trying to speed up the project, although we would like to be
moving at a faster pace. Obviously the gym is the focus of our
efforts which will be a place for not only basketball but also a
place for other events. This will be a high school size gym
which will also provide ample space for our students physical
wellness.
In addition the gym will be equipped with a large
stage and curtain for various social activities.
STORAGE CONTAINER
The acquired storage container has been placed on our Maynard Street parking area. It will house equipment used for festivals and our school. We are grateful for a major donation from
from Michael Kane and his sister Judith.
ANNIVERSARY OF SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
Our school students will observe the 9/11 anniversary with a
prayer service in the Basilica at 8:30am on Wednesday, Sept.
11. Prayers will be recited with the reading of the names of
people from Massachusetts who we lost on this sad day.
Please join our school children at this most meaningful time.
NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO SAINT JOSEPH
On Wednesday, Sept. 11th at 7:00pm we ask parishioners
and friends to join us for the Novena and Devotion to St. Joseph. Members of our Lectors Ministry will carry our patron’s
statue from the Chapel of our Lady of Czestochowa to the
Sanctuary.
St. Joseph has been often called a “Man of Prudence”. In
common terminology prudent describes someone who does not
like to make decisions or commit himself. Yet Prudence makes
us lucid and allows us to grow in our love, whether it be at the
human or the Christian level. Prudence is what enables us to be
faithful.
We are grateful for the graces requested and offerings you
submit in the petition box located in the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel. As you probably noticed the 7:00pm mass on
Wednesday is offered for all the intentions you expressed on
the written form.
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
The traditional 13th of the month procession in honor of our
Lady of Fatima will take place Friday, Sept. 13th at 7:00pm.
Please join us as we pray the Rosary to Our Lady in the outdoor
procession. The presence of parishioners and the Children of
Mary is especially encouraged.
125th ANNIVERSARY PILGRIMAGE TO POLAND
Flyers are available at the entrances to our Basilica for the pilgrimage scheduled for June 24, 2014—July 5, 2014.
An orientation meeting is being planned in September with the
presence of the Pilgrimage organizers who will explain details and
answer your questions.
This Pilgrimage was voted on by the Parish Council and will be
conducted in the spirit of gratitude for 125 years of effective missionary activities. The itinerary is designed to see and experience
the most important spiritual and cultural sites. To reserve your
space please return the registration form to the rectory.
THE CATHOLIC LEAGUE FOR RELIGIOUS ASSISTANCE TO POLAND AND POLONIA
(LIGA KATOLICKA)
A new dimension has been added to the work of the Catholic
League for Religious Assistance to Poland. After the fall of
communism and the inspiration of a Polish Pope, the Catholic
League is working to nurture families of Polonia by fostering
vocations to the priesthood and religious life and supporting
continued formation in faith and training in lay leadership in the
parishes.
Through the assistance of our parish’s special collection the
faithful of Poland and Polonia can continue their strong practice
of the Catholic faith.
The second collection in our parish on the weekend of September 21-22 is designated toward the Liga Katolicka. You
may use the special envelopes provided at the entrances of the
Basilica or support this cause with your contribution during the
second collection.

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
DWUDZIESTA TRZECIA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
8 września 2013
"Nasyć nas z rana swoją łaskawością, abyśmy przez wszystkie dni nasze mogli się radować i cieszyć." (Ps 90, 14)
Fragment
dzisiejszej
Ewangelii
mówi
o warunkach, które decydują o przynależności do
Chrystusa. Pierwszym z nich jest gotowość na
rezygnację z wszystkiego dla Chrystusa. Jezus
stawia przed nami największe wartości: ojca,
matkę, nawet nasze życie i domaga się gotowości
złożenia tego wszystkiego w ofierze, gdyby zachodziła
potrzeba i konieczność wyboru pomiędzy Nim a nimi.
Pragnie
jedynie, abyśmy ponad to wszystko cenili sobie kontakt z Nim.
Drugi warunek to twórcze wykorzystanie życia. Każdy
człowiek do czegoś dąży, chce coś w życiu osiągnąć, czegoś
ważnego dokonać. Czasem ten wysiłek twórczy dotyczy dobra
ojczyzny, ludzkości, Kościoła. Obok gotowości na rezygnację
z wszystkiego dla Pana Jezusa, obok twórczej pasji
wykorzystania życia i zrobienia czegoś dobrego, ucznia Pana
Jezusa musi cechować wielka roztropność, aby mógł
przeciwstawiać się złu.
Druga kolekta dzisiejszej niedzieli jest przeznaczona na
pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
Druga kolekta w przyszłą niedzielę będzie przeznaczona na
katechizację w naszej parafii..

pokoju w Syrii. Zaprasza do tej inicjatywy nie tylko
chrześcijan, ale również wyznawców innych religii oraz ludzi
dobrej woli. Modlitwa i post to nasz osobisty wybór by wzywać

konfliktu.
