Workshop on the module “Organisation of home care” was held on April 28, 2013 at 10:00 – 12:00. The
meeting was attended by MD Jacek Kabziński, and 19 trainees/students – professionals in the field of health
care, mostly nurses and hospital workers.
At the beginning of the meeting the participants discussed modules 1 and 2, and they expressed their opinions
and thoughts and presented their experience with the first attempts to implement the information gained from
the previous modules in their professional career. Their opinion about the modules is more positive now than it
was before, they needed some time to understand and implement it. In addition, after attempts of
implementing module 1 and 2 and introduction to module 3, the trainees agreed that what have been viewed
as separate issues now is starting to fall into place to form a coherent whole.
Subject of the Module "Organisation of home care", like in the previous module, aroused great interest in the
participants. According to them, this is matter of utmost importance, as all European societies, including
Polish, tend to increase the average age of citizens. An aging population will require a different approach from
the medical staff. The increasing number of elderly people and their growing expectations for constant
improvement of the standard of care requires more and more better trained staff. This applies especially to the
nurses and medical carers. Participants draw attention to the significant shortage of personnel in geriatric care
and home care services in Poland which may result in a situation that person working as a nurse or health
carer does not have qualities and skills necessary to perform those duties. Therefore, it seems important to
train medical personnel in this area, including special attention to the approach to the patient and the
relationship patient-nurse/health carer.

When discussing the various chapters of this module, participants drew attention primarily on the merits of the
chapters, the ability to use the information they contain and the activities that can be performed in order to
better understand the material.
As the most useful was considered Chapter 1 - „Home care - national priority of responsibilities”, that became
a contribution to the discussion described above. A large part of the discussion was also dedicated to common
answering questions “Good Nursing Home Questions”. Chapter 2 „Narrative Medicine and home care” allowed
participants to refer to the idea of narrative medicine in terms of Home care and the elderly care, an idea that
for many trainees is still a new one.
In summary, the module has been recognized as valuable and potentially useful as a tool to use in their work.
The meeting ended with a promise of further participation of specialists in the field of health care in the design
and subsequent use of the platform for the participants and the initial agreeing on a date for the next workshop
to discuss the fourth module.
