Leaflet concerning the proof of German language knowledge
1. General details
When applying for a visa for subsequent immigration of family foreign spouses need to prove
little knowledge of German language already.
They should be able to communicate and take part in social life from the beginning on, simply
because that makes it easier to integrate into german society.
2. Verfahren
On application of the visa a proof of German language knowledge (level A1), according to the
ALTE standard exam providers, which have an establishment with delegated employees, is
necessary.
In Poland you have the possibility to take the exam at the Goethe-Institut, the ÖSD, the
Foreign Language Center Świętokrzyskie as well as at the TestDaF Institute.
3. Exceptions
If the applicant seems to have adequate German language knowledge on application
a proof is not necessary.
Other exceptions:
- proven mental or physical disability
- spouses of , scientists, founders of companies, as well as spouses of people admitted to
asylum and recognized refugees according to the Geneva Convention on Refugees
(“Genfer Flüchtlingskonvention”), if they have been married before travelling to
Germany
- spouse with a minimal need for integration
- spouses of Australian, Israelian, Japanese, Canadian, Korean, New Zealand and American citizens
