Our sacrificial giving made in gratitude to the Lord for
His sacrifice for us.
ALL SOULS
Recently a friend told me that someone had
discouraged her from praying for the dead, saying she
should pray only for the living who need it more.
Our Catholic tradition encourages both. Today’s feast
goes back to the monks of Cluny in 988AD and was
accepted by Rome in the 13th century. It
Carries on an even older tradition. In his encyclical
Saved in Hope,. Pope Emeritus Benedict reminds us
that early Jewish tradition holds the idea that one can
help those gone before us through prayer. Furthermore, he adds, it has been a fundamental conviction
of Christianity that love can extend to the afterlife
and reciprocal giving and receiving are possible. Our
affection for one another endures beyond the bounds
of death. God’s word comforts us as we pray,
reminding us that the souls of the just are in God’s
hands and at peace, and the faithful shall abide with
God in love, that we have been reconciled to God by
the death of the Son and that the Father’s will is that
everyone who believes in the Son will have eternal
life.
CANDLE PRAYER
Lord, May this candle be a light for you to enlighten
me in my difficulties and decisions.
May it be a fire for you to burn out of
me all pride, selfishness and impurity.
May it be a flame for you to bring
warmth into my heart towards my family, my neighbors and all those who meet me.
Through the prayers of Mary Virgin and Mother I
place in your care those I come to pray for especially
____________ I cannot stay long with you in this
church; in leaving this candle I wish to give to you
something of myself. Help me to continue my prayer
into everything I do this day. Amen.
PRAYER FOR THE HOLY SOULS
(for all our departed brothers and sisters)
Merciful Father, hear our prayer and console us. As
we renew our faith in Your Son, whom You raised
from the dead, strengthen our hope that all our
departed brothers and sisters will share in His
resurrection, who lives and reigns with You and the
Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever. Eternal rest
grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine
upon them. May they rest in peace. Amen

Wspomnienie Wszystkich
Wiernych Zmarłych
Wspomnienie Wszystkich
Wiernych Zmarłych Kościół
obchodzi 2 listopada i w tradycji
polskiej dzień ten jest nazywany
Dniem Zadusznym lub inaczej
"zaduszkami". To wspomnienie
wprowadził opat benedyktynów
w Cluny we Francji, św. Odilon
(Odylon). On to w 998 r.
zarządził modlitwy za dusze wszystkich zmarłych w
dniu 2 listopada. Termin ten i sama idea szybko
rozprzestrzeniły się we Francji, Anglii, Niemczech,
Italii. W XIII w. zwyczaj ten w Kościele rzymskim
stał się powszechny. W XV w. wytworzył się u
dominikanów w Wanencji zwyczaj ofiarowania w
dniu 2 listopada trzech Mszy św. przez jednego
kapłana. Papież Benedykt XIV w 1748 r. rozszerzył
ten zwyczaj na całą Hiszpanię. W 1915 r., podczas I
wojny światowej, papież Benedykt XV na prośbę
opata - prymasa benedyktynów pozwolił kapłanom
całego Kościoła odprawić w tym dniu trzy Msze św.
Jedną w intencji przyjętej od wiernych, drugą w
intencji wszystkich wiernych zmarłych, a trzecią w
długi do spłacenia Bożej sprawiedliwości. Prawdę o
istnieniu czyśćca Kościół ogłosił jako dogmat na
soborze w Lyonie w 1274 r. i na XXV sesji Soboru
Trydenckiego (1545-1563), w osobnym dekrecie o
czyśćcu. Sobór Trydencki orzekł prawdę, że duszom
w czyśćcu możemy pomagać. Cała wspólnota
Kościoła przychodzi z pomocą duszom czyśćcowym
zanosząc w tym dniu prośby przed tron Boży. Aby
przyjść z pomocą zmarłym pokutującym w czyśćcu,
żyjący mogą w tych dniach uzyskać i ofiarować
o d p u s t y
z u p e ł n e .
