…….We all live on the Earth, one of the planets that orbit around the Sun. There are nine
planets in the solar system: Mercury, Venus, the Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto.
…… The Earth is 150 million kilometers from the Sun. It is not the largest or the smallest
planet, but it is the only planet which has water. It has only one moon.
…… Some planets are hotter and some are colder than the Earth Planets close to the Sun are
hotter, planets far from the Sun are colder. Mercury is hotter than the Earth because it is only 58 million
kilometers from the Sun. It is the hottest planet in the system. It’s only a bit bigger than our
moon.
….. Venus is hot too. It is always in white clouds and is very bright. When you look at the sky in the
evening it is brighter than the stars. Some people think it is UFO when they see it!
….. Saturn is ten times larger than the Earth and has rings of ice and rock around. It has many
moons. Its biggest moon is only a bit smaller than Mercury! Saturn is not the largest planet in the
system. Jupiter is bigger – it is nearly 150 thousand kilometers across!It is also the windiest
planet in the system.
…… The coldest and the darkest planets are Neptune and Pluto. Pluto is the smallest planet in
the solar system.
