Buza, 1958 How many sad memories the occupation of our country left in us, how many painful scarred wounds are still bleeding! There are almost no inches of Polish land where somebody close to heart would not be mourned! And many heroes lie quietly and peacefully forgotten by passing time. One of them is Fr Ceslaus Oszkiel from Tarczyn near Warsaw murdered 14 years ago on 18th of March 1944 by German Nazi thugs. Fr Ceslaus Oszkiel, Tarczyn parish priest, was generally held in high esteem for his rightfulness and patriotism. Always smiling, full of goodness was able to placate and bring together all parishioners. So the news of his death touched all. Throughout German occupation many people came to visit him in his rectory to learn about radio news and get help when most needed. All were welcomed and all were assisted. But the German Gestapo found its way to Tarczyn as well. The arrests followed. Many people were held, among them father Oszkiel, who after arrest was severely beaten at the local police station and next transported to Grójec and brutally murdered. Unbroken and courageous priest did not give up any names though he knew a lot. Quite the opposite he heartened and instilled spirit into the arrested to endure. The body of the murdered priest the Germans carted out of town and secretly buried in a nearby forest. Polish resistance fighter found it though and quietly buried it in a nearby Worowo cemetery. After the end of war and German escape Fr Oszkiel’s relics were solemnly transferred to Tarczyn and buried on the local cemetery. Salvo of honour was granted to the Polish Underground Resistance soldier-martyr. One of the Tarczyn street also bears his name. And a commemorative plaque was unveiled in st Nicholas church.
