Sports sponsorship
Sports sponsorship has for years been one of the most effective tools for creating the image of our brands and consolidating our position both on
the domestic and global market. Thanks to our support, leading Polish sportsmen may develop their talents and successfully represent Poland in
major international tournaments.
Athletics, volleyball and motor sports are disciplines which not only enjoy popularity among their fans, but also perfectly reflect the nature of our
operations. This is why we focus our sports sponsorship activities on these disciplines.
Social aspect of our sports activities
As part of the ‘Life to the Full’ scholarship programme, initiated by PKN ORLEN and the ORLEN Gift from the Heart Foundation in 2012, scholarships
were granted to Poland’s six best disabled athletes who won gold medals in the 2012 Summer Paralympic Games in London, proving that breaking
barriers is possible.
The ORLEN Gift from the Heart Foundation’s sports scholarship grantees included: Karolina Kucharczyk (long jump), Barbara Niewiedział (1,500meter run), Ewa Durska (shot put), Mateusz Michalski (200-meter run), Maciej Lepiato (high jump) and Katarzyna Piekart (javelin throw).
ORLEN Sports Group
In 2012, we sponsored the Polish representation at the London Olympic Games.
For several years, we have also supported some of the country’s best athletes, who together make up the ORLEN Sports Group (OSG). Currently,
the Group is composed of: Tomasz Majewski (shot putter), Piotr Małachowski (discus thrower), Anita Włodarczyk (hammer thrower), Adam Kszczot
and Marcin Lewandowski (middle-distance runners) and Henryk Szost (marathon runner).
In 2012, the OSG members provided much fun and excitement for sports fans. At the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Tomasz Majewski defended
his title, won at the Beijing Olympics. In this way, he proved to be the best shot putter in the world. Anita Włodarczyk expanded her vast collection
of trophies to include a silver Olympic medal and a victory in the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial. The gold medal in the latter competition was
awarded to Piotr Małachowski.
Volleyball
In 2012, volleyball became another pillar of our sports marketing activities, along with athletics and motor sports. Under an agreement with the
Polish Volleyball Federation, we became the main sponsor of the Polish representation in the men’s and women’s volleyball championships and the
title sponsor of the women’s professional volleyball league, which took the name of ORLEN League.
In the 2012 season, we participated in selected tournaments, including the ORLEN Mazury Grand Slam (a beach volleyball tournament) in Stare
Jabłonki. We also supported Grzegorz Fijałek and Mariusz Prudel, Poland’s best beach volleyball pair, competing in international tournaments and
the London Olympic Games.
The outstanding results of Polish volleyball players in 2012, and in particular their victory in the FIVB Volleyball World League, attracted
considerable interest for this discipline from sports fans and the media.
Our increased involvement in the support of volleyball, one of the most popular sports in Poland, follows from the Company’s long-term strategy
focused on the sponsorship of team sports and international sports events.
