Stewardship Note: “Every worthwhile gift, every genuine
benefit, comes from above,” says St. James in the second reading. But, he reminds us, true worship of God involves using
those good gifts to benefit the less fortunate. Good stewardship
is not optional; it is the hallmark of our faith!
TWENTY SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
September 2, 2012
Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you
and is able to save your souls. - James 1:21b
DOERS OF THE WORD
The second reading for today begins a
five-week series of selections from James, a
letter that is classified among the so-called
“catholic” (or universal epistles because they
are addressed to a general audience rather
than to one particular community. Today’s
text offers important advice for Christians of every generation.
God is first cited as the author of all gifts, and in particular,
reference is made to the gift of baptism by which we have been
made the “first fruits” of the new creation.
What follows is advice based on a very Jewish understanding
of the “word” as an active force, operative in the world. We
are reminded that unless we, too, become “doers” of the word,
our claim to faith is empty. Today and in subsequent weeks the
author reminds us that it is equally important to do the “works”
of love, for example, by caring for the “orphans and widows in
their affliction.”
The second collection this weekend is
for Diocesan Obligations.
The second collection next weekend is designated
for Utilities & Energy.
DIVINE MERCY DEVOTION
The monthly devotion to the Divine Mercy will be held this
Sunday at 3:00pm. We will recite the chaplet followed by
benediction. Please join us in prayer for needed graces.
FIRST FRIDAY OF THE MONTH
The first Friday of the month is observed Sept. 7th. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament will take place following the
7:00am Mass and conclude at 3:00pm with the Chaplet to the
Divine Mercy. Adorers please attend at your scheduled time. A
Mass will also be celebrated at 7:00pm in the Polish language.
Please note: All members and parishioners are invited to
join us at the 7:00am Mass which is designated for either the
living or deceased members of the Sacred Heart Society.
125th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
We are four weeks away from the 125th Jubilee Celebration. A
lot of things have been accomplished but there are many things
still to be done. The participation of parishioners is needed,
necessary and crucial. This celebration involves each one of us.
I am grateful for your financial support which allows us to address urgent issues. The return of your census form is a sign
that you care and take personal pride to be part of this 125-yearold community of faith.
Page 3
JUBILEE NOTES
The monthly Jubilee Donation Envelope will conclude with
the September envelope. If you have not as yet contributed
toward our jubilee goals, there is still time to do so by enclosing
a pledge of your donation during September. Your name will
be among the contributors acknowledged in the publication of
our 125th Anniversary Book as was done in the previous anniversary book. We set goals for this jubilee year and last week
you were given a report on our progress toward these goals.
Parish organizations donated $7500 for a new sign in front of
the Basilica as a gift from our parish spiritual organizations. In
addition to the accomplishments your donations achieved thus
far we still have to address the issues of the following expenditures most importantly the HVAC system which supplies our
heat for the winter. The system is old and one unit is failing.
This cost amounts to approximately $20,000. Parishioners have
voiced concern regarding the sound system. At the present time
we are consulting with professional companies for advice. We
must consider publishing a small parish brochure, to be placed
at the entrance to the basilica, which is long overdue. Obviously
there are other expenses which we will incur with the jubilee
celebration. An anniversary book is published every twentyfive years. In keeping with this tradition we will proudly publish our 125th Anniversary Book which will attest to the last 25
years of our sacrifice and dedication as responsible parishioners
of Saint Joseph Basilica parish. The financial support of all our
parishioners is imperative to achieving our goals. We have been
gifted a proud legacy and we have responded jubilantly. May
God bless us with graces to continue as trustworthy stewards of
Saint Joseph Basilica Parish.
—The Jubilee Committee
JUBILEE BLESSINGS
St. Joseph Parish has been graced by many special and dedicated volunteers throughout our history. We are grateful to Al
Richard and Joseph Ziak, who serve as Sacristans, for their continued service to our parish in their assistance in preparing for
masses on a daily basis and for celebrations and special occasions. They rise early in the morning to open the church and
often stay late into the night to close the church in the evening.
We deeply appreciate their gift of time for St. Joseph Basilica.
With many activities at our Basilica we are looking for volunteers to assist Al and Joe.
During the past several weeks we have identified many individuals who in various ways have been a blessing to St. Joseph
Basilica in its continuous service to God and one another. This
should be an excellent basis for personal reflection—in what
way am I a blessing for this community of faith? —what have I
done recently for St. Joseph Basilica? Life is flowing with the
speed of time and it is possible that many will miss the boat and
forget the most important task for which we were created, to
pray and promote the Gospel message in an effective way in
our community of faith. May I suggest some ways to accomplish this—join the St. Joseph Polish Women’s Club or one of
our Sodalities, one of our choirs, Altar Guild, volunteer in our
Religious Education Program, in our school, the school cafeteria, etc., or through your financial assistance. Please consider
sharing your time, talent and treasure with our Saint Joseph
Basilica Community.

MASS BOOK FOR THE YEAR 2013
Beginning on Tues., Sept. 4th., we will be accepting reservations for masses for the year 2013. Dates are available on a
first come-first serve basis. In order to provide the opportunity
for all parishioners to schedule a weekend Mass, please try to
also take advantage of weekday masses. Rectory office hours
are 9:00am until noon and 1:00-4:00pm Monday through Friday (closed on Thursday). Telephone requests will be taken
only from those who are handicapped and unable to come to the
rectory. We appreciate your cooperation.
The best gift offered for family members on the occasion of
anniversaries, birthdays and significant events is to offer the
sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The Eucharistic sacrifice is the most
effective prayer and therefore should be requested for the deceased and living alike. It has been a tradition that people request a mass on their wedding anniversaries, birthdays, special
events and for children
For your information– Tote Bags and Jubilee Lottery
Tickets are available at the rectory.

NEW HANDRAILS
The handrails from the Whitcomb Street entrance of the
Basilica have been installed along with the rails at the top level.
They were designed and manufactured here at St. Joseph
Basilica with solid materials for stability and safety. The old
rails from the Maynard Street entrance have been sanded and
refinished. Although these rails do not exactly match the new
ones, we retained them because they are strong, secure and cost
effective. All the stairs at the entrance to the Basilica are
accessible and safe. I am grateful for your patience and
understanding during this time of reconstruction work.
DOYLESTOWN REFLECTIONS
Last Sunday the Pilgrimage of St. Joseph Basilica, under the
auspices of the Holy Rosary Sodality and their Chaplain Fr.
Gregory Chodkowski traveled to Our Lady of Czestochowa
Shrine in Doylestown, PA. All the pilgrims carried personal
intentions and our common request in prayers for AmericanPolonia to keep their faith. They attended the Solemn Celebration at 11:30am with several thousand people. Some of our
young parishioners had the privilege to be lectors during the
Mass. The main Celebrant was Adam Cardinal Maida, Homilist, Archbishop of Lvov, Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, assisted by
many priests and deacons.
May God through the intercession of our Lady of Czestochowa whom we venerate at our Basilica help our parishioners
and friends.

OBCHODY 125-LECIA
najistotniejszych prac. Równie istotnie są formularze spisowe, które
powracają do nas, dając nam świadomość Waszej troski i jednocześnie
parafian naszej Bazyliki.
Organizacje parafialne złożyły ofiary w wysokości 7500 dolarów na
nowy znak, który znajdzie się przed Bazyliką. Ponadto przed zimą
konieczne jest naprawienie ogrzewania w kościele. Szacowany koszt
naprawy wynosi około 20 tyś dolarów. Również nagłośnienie wymaga
poprawy. Obecnie są prowadzone rozmowy z profesjonalnymi firmami
w celu ustalenia zasięgu prac i kosztów. Planujemy również
wydrukować okolicznościowe broszury o parafii, które będą dostępne
przy wejściu do Bazyliki. Oprócz wspomnianych powyżej wydatków z
pewnością pojawią się jeszcze inne, dlatego też wsparcie finansowe
wszystkich parafian jest konieczne. Zostaliśmy obdarowaniu dumną
spuścizną, którą przyjmujemy z radością. Niech Bóg błogosławi nas
jako godnych zaufania spadkobierców Bazyliki św. Józefa.
Komitet Jubileuszowy
RELIGIA
do kościoła. Wszystkich, którzy jeszcze nie zapisali swoich dzieci
prosimy o uczynienie tego jak najszybciej.
Zapraszamy wolontariuszy, którzy chcieliby wspomóc parafię w
katechizacji. Zapewniamy szkolenie.
Osoby dorosłe chcące przyłączyć się do Kościoła Katolickiego
prosimy o kontakt z biurem parafialnym.
DWUDZIESTA DRUGA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA
2 września 2012
"Przyjmijcie w duchu łagodności zaszczepione w was słowo,
które ma moc zbawić dusze wasze." (Jk 1, 21b)
Dzisiejsze drugie czytanie rozpoczyna
utrzymania i energii.
KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Zapraszamy dziś na godzinę 15:00 na comiesięczną Koronkę do
Miłosierdzia Bożego. Przypominamy przy okazji, że Jezus w czasie
swoich objawień obiecał wiele łask tym, którzy będą odmawiać tę
modlitwę, szczególne w godzinę Jego męki.
PIERWSZY PIĄTEK MIESIĄCA
Pierwszy Piątek Miesiąca obchodzimy 7 września. Adoracja
7:00 i zostanie zakończona o godz. 15:00 Koronką do Miłosierdzia
Bożego. Wszystkich zapraszamy do osobistej adoracji. Wieczorem
zostanie odprawiona Msza św. po polsku. Możliwość spowiedzi przed
Mszą od godz. 18:00.
W celu
zapisania intencji prosimy o wizytę w kancelarii parafialnej.
Serdecznie zachęcamy do wsparcia Rycerzy.
REFLEKSJA PIELGRZYMKOWA
Ostatniej niedzieli Pielgrzymi z naszej parafii uczestniczyli w
dorocznej Pielgrzymce Polonii do sanktuarium Matki Boskiej
Częstochowskiej w Doylestown w Pensylwanii. Każdy z pielgrzymów
zaniósł przed oblicze Naszej Matki swoje osobiste intencje połączone z
modlitwą o wzrost i umocnienie wiary pośród Polonii. Wraz z innymi
uczestnikami obchodów uczestniczyli w uroczystej Eucharystii,
podczas której posługiwali jako lektorzy nasi młodzi parafianie.
Głównym celebransem był kardynał Adam Maida a okolicznościową
homilię wygłosił Arcybiskup Lwowa Mieczysław Mokrzycki.
WIADOMOŚCI SZKOLNE
W ubiegłym tygodniu uczniowie z radością powrócili do naszej
szkoły, która w miesiącu sierpniu została odnowiona i przygotowana do
przyjęcia uczniów dzięki ogromnemu nakładowi pracy pana Eugeniusza
Rudnickiego i wspomagających go osób.
pana Klemensa Starostę i ks. Prałata Antoniego Czarneckiego.
