ALL SOULS DAY CONCERT - NOVEMBER 2nd,
4:00PM
Il Giardino d’Amore is a European Baroque orchestra
that performs on original instruments and has appeared in
festivals and concert halls in Europe, the U.S., and Canada.
Tickets for the concert are $10. Refreshments will be
served following the performance. Flyers are located at the
doors of the church.
LOOKING TO THE LAST DAY
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Today the Church remembers all who have walked the
way of Christ and passed from this life. The readings, all
look to the last day, when we shall all rise from the dead
and be reunited.
The prophet Daniel announces words of warning and
welfare. He cautions us against the judgment to come, but
he also comforts us and assures us that all who live a life
of virtue and justice will find life eternal.
The reading from Romans reminds us that, because of
Christ’s passion, death, and resurrection and our entrance
into that paschal mystery through baptism, we now share
in the new life won by Christ. This recognition has
repercussions: we need to live righteously now, that we
might rise to life forever with Christ on the last day.
In the Gospel Jesus pledges that all the Father has
given him will not be lost. All the faithful will be raised to
joy and live forever in the presence of God.
For those of Mexican heritage, November 2 means
celebration of el Dia de Los Muertos, or “the Day of the
Dead.” One of the most important days of the year for
many, they join All Saints and All Souls together, visiting
the graves of babies and children on All Saints, since they
are santitos (little saints) or angelitos (little angels).
Flowers, their favorite toys, favorite music, and so on, are
taken to them. The following day, people spend time some of them all day - at the cemetery with their loved
ones who have died. From the ancient customs of the
Indians the families pray, talk with them, and take them
their favorite food. It is a most solemn but joyful day. It is
a day to celebrate Christ’s victory over death: “Death,
where is your sting?” There is a mocking of death as
people make skeletons, candy that represents death, and
Pan de los Muertos (bread of the dead) and consume
them in a kind of role reversal.
One of the customs is to build an altarcito (little altar)
where one places mementos and pictures of those who
have died. There are also favorite foods, candles, statues
or pictures of favorite saints, books, and Bibles. Some
parishes have begun to build an altarcito where all
parishioners can join in honoring the deceased. A
remembrance book can be placed to write names in. The
altarcito is traditionally left up for the month of
November.

gitarłę klasyczną nastąpi 16 listopada , godz. 16:00.
Było już około godziny szóstej i mrok ogarnął całą ziemię
aż do godziny dziewiątej. Słońce się zaćmiło i zasłona
przybytku rozdarła się przez środek. Wtedy Jezus zawołał
donośnym głosem: Ojcze, w Twoje ręce powierzam ducha
mojego. Po tych słowach wyzionął ducha. Był tam człowiek
dobry i sprawiedliwy, imieniem Józef, członek Wysokiej
Rady. On to udał się do Piłata i poprosił o ciało Jezusa.
Zdjął je z krzyża, owinął w płótno i złożył w grobie, wykutym
w skale, w którym nikt jeszcze nie był pochowany. W
pierwszy dzień tygodnia poszły skoro świt do grobu, niosąc
przygotowane wonności. Kamień od grobu zastały
odsunięty. A skoro weszły, nie znalazły ciała Pana Jezusa.
Gdy wobec tego były bezradne, nagle stanęło przed nimi
dwóch mężczyzn w lśniących szatach. Przestraszone,
pochyliły twarze ku ziemi, lecz tamci rzekli do nich:
"Dlaczego szukacie żyjącego wśród umarłych? Nie ma Go
tutaj; zmartwychwstał. Przypomnijcie sobie, jak wam mówił,
będąc jeszcze w Galilei.
Łukasz 23:44-46
Święty (z łac. sanctus) - oznacza to, co jest oddzielone od
wszystkiego, co ziemskie, a co nalezy do sfery
niebieskiej. Świętym jest przede wszystkim sam Bog.
Jego świętość wyraza się w majestacie, wielkości, chwale
i dobroci. Jest to świętość absolutna, najwyzsza. Świętym
jest rowniez kazdy człowiek, ktory
dostąpił łaski chrztu świętego. W sposob szczegolny
słowo „święty” odnosi się do osob, ktore w swoim zyciu
realizowały dar świętości przez całkowite naśladowanie
Chrystusa w Ŝyciu i śmierci. Na rozpamiętywanie
„świętych obcowania” Kościoł przeznacza dwa dni: 1
listopada – Wszystkich Świętych i 2 listopada – Dzień
Zaduszny. W uroczystość Wszystkich Świętych
pamiętamy o tych, ktorzy juz stoją w niebie przed
obliczem Boga i cieszą się wieczną Ucztą Miłości. W ten
dzień w sposob szczegolny prosimy świętych o
wstawiennictwo za nami Ŝyjącymi oraz dziękujemy im za
przykłady świętości. Dzień Zaduszny, czyli Wspomnienie
wszystkich wiernych zmarłych, poświęcony jest duszom
w czyśćcu cierpiącym, czyli tym, ktorzy zmarli.
Odbywają oni pokutę, aby przygotować się na Ucztę
Pana. Pamiętajmy więc o nich w naszych modlitwach.
Najpełniejsze zjednoczenie Kościoła z tymi, ktorzy
poprzedzili nas do wiecznej chwały dokonuje się w
świętej liturgii. Dlatego kalendarz liturgiczny Kościoła
ubogacony jest o niezliczoną rzeszę świętych. Podczas
kazdej Eucharystii wspomina się i prosi o ich
wstawiennictwo: „Przeto błagam Najświętszą Maryję,
zawsze Dziewicę, wszystkich Aniołow i Świętych (...) o
modlitwę za mnie do Pana Boga naszego” (z Aktu
pokutnego), „Dlatego z Aniołami i wszystkimi Świętymi
głosimy Twoją chwałę...” (z Prefacji). Święci patronowie
nasi, modlcie się za nami!

VIVIR EN JUSTICIA
“¡Devuélvelo ahora mismo!”. ¿Cuántas veces hemos
escuchado esa frase, probablemente más de una vez,
cuando éramos niños? Llegamos a casa con el trofeo que
consideramos un dulce hallazgo, para que nuestros padres
deshicieran nuestras ganancias haciéndonos devolver el
botín. Ellos tenían un concepto muy diferente de lo que
constituye un acuerdo “de intercambio justo”. La justicia
en nuestros tratos con otros constituye una importante
medida de nuestro carácter, como un buen padre de
familia, a Dios le importa mucho cómo nos tratamos los
unos a los otros y cómo los otros nos tratan a nosotros.
Dios oye el clamor de los pobres y responde al llamado de
los oprimidos. Los hijos bien amados de Dios no se han de
comportar como abusadores.

Las lecturas mencionadas aquí han sido seleccionadas de

Primera Lectura - Las almas de los justos están en
manos de Dios, donde no los alcanzará ningún tormento.
(Sabiduría 3:1-9).
