CONGRATULATIONS
The children who attend our religious education program
have been recognized for their outstanding contribution to
the Lenten Mite Box Drive, sponsored by the Society for the
Propagation of the Faith. On Mission Sunday, October 21st,
at the 10:30AM Mass at St. James Cathedral-Basilica, Viviana Lopez, will represent our students in accepting an award
for our children’s efforts in supporting the missions. Kate
Robertson will participate in the Mass as a gift bearer and
Mrs. Sylvia Rivera-Vecchio, one of our catechists, will represent our program. The Mass and awards presentation will
be broadcast live on NET, the Diocesan television station,
(Channel 30 on Cablevision and 97 on Time Warner). As a
parish community, we can be proud of the generosity of our
students and their families.

All registered parishioners have received a book of raffles in the mail. About half of the parishioners have returned

rectory. Father Luke will pick the winners at a luncheon on
November 11th at 2PM in the St. Joseph’s Cultural Center.

GIFTS
SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
In today’s readings, we discover that material wealth
alone does not keep us from discipleship. We will see that
there are other gifts more important than material wealth,
but even so, it is how we use our gifts that matters most.
Today’s scriptures point to the value of the gifts of
wisdom, trusting in God, and letting our actions reflect
the love of God from within. It is not gold that causes us
to fall, but rather the desire for gold above all other
things. From the readings in Wisdom and Hebrews, we
find the source of God’s gifts in our lives. Wisdom is
more valuable than worldly possessions. In Hebrews, we
are challenged to look at our own values and admit
honestly what controls our lives.

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
Forty-nine years ago Pope John XXIII opened the
Second Vatican Council with these challenging words:
“Our duty is not just to guard this treasure, as though it
were some museum piece and we the curators, but . . .
what is needed at the present time is a new enthusiasm, a
new joy and serenity of mind.” As the participants in
Vatican II proceeded with their deliberations, the first
document they produced was the Constitution on the
Sacred Liturgy, for they knew that it is from the liturgical
life of the Church that everything else we do proceeds.
This seminal document, arrived at after much debate
and approved virtually unanimously, set the tone for the
entire Council to follow. It also set in motion the liturgical
reforms that we are still implementing today. Perhaps no
single phrase of the entire Vatican Council has had more
influence on the life of the Church over the last halfcentury as the Constitution on the Liturgy’s ringing
declaration that “full and active participation by all the
people is the aim to be considered before all else.”

Żywe bowiem jest słowo Boże, skuteczne i

Hebrajczyków 4,12-13
Gdy Jezus wybierał się w drogę, przybiegł pewien

wieczne? Jezus mu rzekł: Czemu nazywasz Mnie dobrym?
Nikt nie jest dobry, tylko sam Bóg. Znasz przykazania:
Nie zabijaj, nie cudzołóż, nie kradnij, nie zeznawaj
fałszywie, nie oszukuj, czcij swego ojca i matkę. On Mu
rzekł: Nauczycielu, wszystkiego tego przestrzegałem od
mojej młodości. Wtedy Jezus spojrzał z miłością na niego
i rzekł mu: Jednego ci brakuje. Idź, sprzedaj wszystko, co
masz, i rozdaj ubogim, a będziesz miał skarb w niebie.
Potem przyjdź i chodź za Mną. Lecz on spochmurniał na
te słowa i odszedł zasmucony, miał bowiem wiele
posiadłości. Wówczas Jezus spojrzał wokoło i rzekł do
swoich uczniów: Jak trudno jest bogatym wejść do
królestwa Bożego. Uczniowie zdumieli się na Jego słowa,
lecz Jezus powtórnie rzekł im: Dzieci, jakże trudno wejść
do królestwa Bożego . Łatwiej jest wielbłądowi przejść
przez ucho igielne, niż bogatemu wejść do królestwa
Bożego. A oni tym bardziej się dziwili i mówili między
sobą: Któż więc może się zbawić? Jezus spojrzał na nich i
rzekł: U ludzi to niemożliwe, ale nie u Boga; bo u Boga
wszystko jest możliwe. Wtedy Piotr zaczął mówić do
Niego: Oto my opuściliśmy wszystko i poszliśmy za Tobą.
Jezus odpowiedział: Zaprawdę, powiadam wam: Nikt nie
opuszcza domu, braci, sióstr, matki, ojca, dzieci i pól z
powodu Mnie i z powodu Ewangelii, żeby nie otrzymał
stokroć więcej teraz, w tym czasie, domów, braci, sióstr,
matek, dzieci i pól, wśród prześladowań, a życia
wiecznego w czasie przyszłym.

REFLEKSJA NA TEMAT CZYTAŃ NIEDZIELNYCH...
„Łatwiej jest wielbłądowi przejść przez ucho igielne,
niż bogatemu wejść do królestwa Bożego.” Wielbłąd nie
zmieści się w uchu igielnym. Nie zaznają smaku życia
wiecznego ci, którzy z niczego nie chcą zrezygnować i
chcą posiąść królestwo Boże w taki sam sposób, w jaki
posiada się kolejne rzeczy. „Któż więc może się
zbawić?” U Boga wszystko jest możliwe. Jedynie w Nim
warto złożyć nadzieję, jedynie On nie tylko spełnia
obietnice, ale nadto daje wiele więcej.

LECTURAS DE HOY
Primera lectura - El don más preciado que podemos
pedir y poseer es la sabiduría (Sabiduría 7:7-11).
Salmo - Sácianos, Señor, de tu misericordia (Salmo 90
[89]).
Segunda lectura - La palabra viva de Dios penetra
hasta las profundidades más recónditas de nuestro ser
(Hebreos 4:12-13).
Evangelio - Aquellos que han dejado sus posesiones a
causa de Cristo y su Evangelio recibirán en herencia la
vida eterna (Marcos 10:17-30 [17-27]).
DONES
En las lecturas de hoy, se descubre que la riqueza
material por sí sola no nos impide ser discípulos.
Veremos que hay otros dones más importantes que la
riqueza material, pero aún así, es cómo usamos nuestros
dones lo que más importa.
Las Escrituras de hoy señalan el valor de los dones de
la sabiduría, la confianza en Dios y dejando que nuestras
acciones reflejen el amor de Dios desde nuestro interior.
No es el oro lo que nos hace caer, sino más bien el deseo
del oro por encima de todas las demás cosas. De las
lecturas de la Sabiduría y de la Carta a los Hebreos,
encontramos la fuente de los dones de Dios en nuestras
vidas. La sabiduría es más valiosa que las posesiones
mundanas. En Hebreos se nos reta a examinar nuestros
valores y admitir honestamente lo que controla nuestras
vidas.

Comenzando el próximo lunes, octobre 15, habrá una clase
de aprender inglés, de 7PM a 8PM en el Centro Cultural de
San Jose. Las clases son GRATIS. Esos interesados de
