THE APPLICATION OF THE UML NOTATION IN
MODELLING OF THE BUSINESS PROCESSES
OF THE SHIPPING COMPANY
AND SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS.

ABSTRACT
The subject of the work is the analysis of the functioning of the
shiping company and the definition of requirements with regard to the
Information System supporting the selected business processes. The
shipping company is the typical example of the organization functioning
according to the rules of so called new economy. The effective use of
Information Technologies has a decisive influence on building the competition advantage in this type of organizations. Designing and then implementing the appropriate IS calls for well defined system requirements, correlated with the strategic goals of the company. The notation
applied commonly for modelling of IS is UML. Because this notation
also enables the modelling of business, it may be used in all stages of
carrying out the information project. The use of the uniform notation
facilitates the communication among all parties involved in the venture,
that is, the experts in the given objective field, the team developing IS,
the clients and the future users. The aim of the work is the presentation of
the UML notation as the tool integrating the requirements engineering
with the analysis of the business processes.

STRESZCZENIE
Przedmiotem pracy jest analiza funkcjonowania firmy spedycyjnej oraz
definicja wymagań względem Systemu Informatycznego (SI) wspierającego wybrane procesy biznesowe. Firma spedycyjna jest typowym przykładem organizacji działającej według reguł tzw. nowej ekonomii. Efektywne wykorzystanie Technologii Informatycznych ma kluczowy wpływ
na budowę przewagi konkurencyjnej w tego typu organizacjach. Zapro-
jekto-wanie, a następnie wdrożenie odpowiedniego SI wymaga dobrze
zdefiniowanych wymagań systemowych, skorelowanych z celami strategicznymi firmy. Notacją wykorzystywaną powszechnie do modelowania
SI jest UML (Unified Modeling Language). Ponieważ notacja ta umożliwia także modelowanie biznesu może zostać wykorzystana we wszystkich etapach prowadzenia projektu informatycznego. Używanie jednolitj
notacji ułatwia komunikację między wszystkimi stronami zaangażowanymi w przedsięwzięcie, tj. ekspertami w danej dziedzinie przedmiotowej, zespołem tworzącym SI, zleceniodawcami i przyszłymi użytkownikami. Celem pracy jest prezentacja notacji UML jako narzędzia integrującego inżynierię wymagań z analizą procesów biznesowych.
