FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT
Mark 1:12-15
Jesus is tempted in the desert by Satan.
Background on the Gospel Reading
On the first Sunday of Lent, the Gospel reading in each Lectionary cycle is about Jesus' temptation in the desert. This event in
the life of Jesus is reported in each of the Synoptic Gospels—
Matthew, Mark, and Luke—but it is not found in John's Gospel.
This year we read Mark's account of this event.
Compared to the Gospels of Matthew and Luke, the details
throughout Mark's narrative are sparse. This is evident in Mark's
account of Jesus' temptation in the desert. Mark tells us only that
Jesus was led into the desert by the Spirit and that for 40 days he
was tempted by Satan. The Gospels of Matthew and Luke explain that Jesus fasted while in the desert, that Satan presented
him with three temptations, and that Jesus refused each one,
quoting Scripture. Only the Gospels of Matthew and Mark report
that angels ministered to Jesus at the end of his time in the desert.
In each of the Synoptic Gospels, the temptation of Jesus follows
his baptism by John the Baptist. In Mark's Gospel, we are told
that Jesus went into the desert immediately after his baptism, led
by the Spirit. Jesus' public ministry in Galilee begins after his
temptation in the desert. Mark's Gospel makes a connection between the arrest of John the Baptist and the beginning of Jesus'
ministry. Jesus' preaching about the Kingdom of God is in continuity with the preaching of John the Baptist, but it is also something new. As Jesus announces it, the Kingdom of God is beginning; the time of the fulfillment of God's promises is here.
The fact that Jesus spent 40 days in the desert is significant. This
recalls the 40 years that the Israelites wandered in the desert
after being led from slavery in Egypt. The prophet Elijah also
journeyed in the desert for 40days and nights, making his way to
Horeb, the mountain of God, where he was also attended to by
an angel of the Lord. Remembering the significance of these
events, we also set aside 40 days for the season of Lent.
In Mark's Gospel, the desert marks beginning of Jesus' battle
with Satan; the ultimate test will be in Jesus' final hours on the
cross. In a similar way, our Lenten observances are only a beginning, a preparation for and a reinforcement of our ongoing struggle to resist the temptations we face in our lives. During Lent, we
are led by the Holy Spirit to remember the vows of Baptism in
which we promised to reject sin and to follow Jesus. Just as Jesus was ministered to by the angels, God also supports us in our
struggle against sin and temptation. We succeed because Jesus
conquered sin once and for all in his saving death on the cross.

I Domingo de Cuaresma
En aquel tiempo el Espíritu empujó a Jesús al desierto. Se quedó en el desierto cuarenta días, dejándose
tentar por Satanás, vivía entre alimañas y los ángeles
le servían. Cuando arrestaron a Juan, Jesús se marchó a Galilea a proclamar el Evangelio de Dios. Decía: Se ha cumplido el plazo, está cerca el reino de
Dios: convertíos y creer en el Evangelio.

Primera Semana de Cuaresma
Empezamos la cuaresma y la Palabra nos propone para la reflexión, la presencia de las tentaciones en la vida de Jesús y en
nuestro caminar diario.
Tentación no es lo mismo que pecado. La tentación es una invitación a caer en el pecado. Jesús tuvo tentaciones y en cambio no
tuvo pecados.Uno de los dramas de los seres humanos es que
ante la tentación somos excesivamente débiles cuando no tenemos presente a Dios. Cuántos cristianos conocemos que sucumbieron ante las mil tentaciones que nos ofrece el mundo cada día,
en cada instante. Meditar sobre las tentaciones debe ser un ejercicio frecuente en nuestra cuaresma recién comenzada:
◦¿Cuáles son nuestras tentaciones más frecuentes?
◦¿Por qué somos tan vulnerables ante ellas y caemos con tanta
frecuencia?
◦¿Cómo nos quedamos después de caer?
Siempre tendremos tentaciones pero en cada época de nuestra
vida se nos presentarán de maneras distintas. Si en la infancia ya
las tentaciones nos inclinan a obrar el mal y en la juventud nos
desconcierta de mil maneras, bien podemos llegar a ser adultos
con la sensación que siempre hemos sucumbido a toda invitación
al error y apoderarse de nosotros el vacío de la vida.
Las tentaciones no se nos envían para que caigamos en ellas,
sino para superarlas y ser mejores que cuando comenzaron. Cada cristiano debería mostrar por medio de la superación de las
tentaciones su madurez y fortalezas cristianas. Vencer las tentaciones es creer de verdad en lo que se dice.
Las tentaciones son enfermedades del espíritu, son algo así como resfriados del alma. Si reaccionamos con rapidez ante ellas,
si no les dejamos que avancen un paso más, si les hacemos la
guerra, se diluyen en sus propias dudas.
Jesús nos dice :"no nos dejes caer en la tentación…"; quizá esta
sea una de las frases más repetidas por los cristianos de todas
las épocas. Bien sabe Jesús que nuestra fragilidad necesita de la
ayuda de Dios para darnos cuenta que sin Él no podemos hacer
nada.
Nuestro texto de hoy viene cargado de simbolismos:
◦El número cuarenta representa un tiempo considerable.
◦Satanás significa "adversario"
Podemos decir que cada cristiano se encuentra casi toda la vida
con las tentaciones rondándole, y el adversario buscará las formas de hacerle tropezar. Siguiendo el ejemplo de Jesús podemos salir victoriosos de la prueba con Él.
El anuncio del reino de Dios aparece en este evangelio muy cerca de las tentaciones. Primero son las invitaciones a pecar por

parte del maligno y luego la gran proclamación de aceptar el
evangelio por parte de Jesús. La vida del cristiano siempre estará
en estas dos invitaciones, cada uno deberá elegir con cuál se
queda.
¿Tenemos fe? Claro que tenemos fe, pero nunca debemos olvidarnos que nuestra fe está llena de tentaciones y que si nos descuidamos podemos sucumbir ante ellas. La permanente ayuda de
Dios no nos abandona ni en los peores momentos.
¿QUÉ ES LA CUARESMA?
La Cuaresma es el tiempo litúrgico de conversión, que marca
la Iglesia para prepararnos a la gran fiesta de la Pascua. Es
tiempo para arrepentirnos de nuestros pecados y de cambiar
algo de nosotros para ser mejores y poder vivir más cerca de
Cristo.
La Cuaresma dura 40 días; comienza el Miércoles de Ceniza
y termina el Domingo de Ramos, día que se inicia la Semana
Santa. A lo largo de este tiempo, sobre todo en la liturgia del
domingo, hacemos un esfuerzo por recuperar el ritmo y estilo
de verdaderos creyentes que debemos vivir como hijos de
Dios.
El color litúrgico de este tiempo es el morado que significa
luto y penitencia. Es un tiempo de reflexión, de penitencia, de
conversión espiritual; tiempo de preparación al misterio pascual.
La duración de la Cuaresma está basada en el símbolo del
número cuarenta en la Biblia. En ésta, se habla de los cuarenta días del diluvio, de los cuarenta años de la marcha del
pueblo judío por el desierto, de los cuarenta días de Moisés y
de Elías en la montaña, de los cuarenta días que pasó Jesús
en el desierto antes de comenzar su vida pública, de los 400
años que duró la estancia de los judíos en Egipto.
¿CUÁL ES, POR TANTO, EL ESPÍRITU DE LA CUARESMA?
Debe ser como un retiro colectivo de cuarenta días, durante
los cuales la Iglesia, proponiendo a sus fieles el ejemplo de
Cristo en su retiro al desierto, se prepara para la celebración
de las solemnidades pascales, con la purificación del corazón, una práctica perfecta de la vida cristiana y una actitud
penitencial.
¿QUÉ DEBE SEGUIRSE DE VIVIR LA CUARESMA?
Si se vive bien la Cuaresma, deberá lograrse una auténtica y
profunda CONVERSIÓN personal, preparándonos, de este
modo, para la fiesta más grande del año: el Domingo de la
Resurrección del Señor.

...«By się zachęcać do miłości i do dobrych
uczynków» – wspólna droga do świętości
To wyrażenie z Listu do Hebrajczyków (10, 24)
zachęca nas do tego, byśmy mieli na uwadze
powszechne powołanie do świętości, nieustanne
postępowanie w życiu duchowym, byśmy dążyli do
większych charyzmatów oraz coraz wznioślejszej i
bardziej owocnej miłości (por. 1 Kor 12, 31-13, 13).
Wzajemna troska ma pobudzać do konkretnej, coraz
większej miłości, «niczym światło poranne, które
wschodzi i wzrasta aż do południa» (por. Prz 4, 18),
w oczekiwaniu na dzień, który nie zna zmierzchu w
Bogu. Czas, który jest nam dany w życiu, jest cenny,
abyśmy odkrywali i spełniali dobre uczynki w miłości
Boga. Dzięki temu Kościół rośnie i się rozwija, aby
osiągnąć pełną doskonałość Chrystusa (por. Ef 4, 13).
W tej dynamicznej perspektywie wzrostu mieści się
nasze wezwanie, byśmy się wzajemnie pobudzali do
osiągania pełni miłości i dobrych czynów.
Niestety, wciąż istnieje pokusa, by się nie angażować,

tłumić Ducha, odmawiać «wykorzystywania
talentów», które nam zostały dane dla naszego dobra i
dobra bliźniego (por. Mt 25, 25 n.). Wszyscy
otrzymaliśmy bogactwa duchowe czy materialne
przydatne do tego, by wypełniać Boży plan, dla dobra
Kościoła i dla naszego zbawienia (por. Łk 12, 21 b; 1
Tm 6, 18). Mistrzowie duchowości przypominają, że
w życiu wiary ten, kto nie czyni postępów, cofa się.
Drodzy bracia i siostry, weźmy sobie do serca wciąż
aktualne wezwanie, by dążyć do «wysokiej miary
życia chrześcijańskiego» (por. Jan Paweł II, list apost.
Novo millennio ineunte [6 stycznia 2001], n. 31).
Kościół w swej mądrości, uznając i ogłaszając
błogosławionymi i świętymi niektórych przykładnych
chrześcijan, ma
na
celu także wzbudzanie
pragnienia, by naśladować ich cnoty. Św. Paweł
napomina: «w okazywaniu czci jedni drugich
wyprzedzajcie» (Rz 12, 10).
W świecie, który wymaga od chrześcijan
odnowionego świadectwa miłości Pana i wierności
Mu, wszyscy winni czuć potrzebę prześcigania się w
miłości, w usługiwaniu i w dobrych uczynkach (por.
Hbr 6, 10). To napomnienie ma szczególną moc w
okresie przygotowania do świąt wielkanocnych.

zawierzam was wstawiennictwu Najświętszej Maryi
Panny i z serca udzielam wszystkim

Rekolekcje Wielkopostne
Zapraszamy serdecznie wszystkich parafian do
uczestniczenia w rekolekcjach wielkopostnych,
które rozpoczniemy w Trzecią Niedzielę Wielkiego
Postu (10/11 marca). Potrwają one do czwartku 15
marca. Spotkania rekolekcyjne będą się odbywać o
godzinie 12.00 P.M i 7.00 P.M

Kurs przed Chrztem dziecka
Przypominamy, że w każdą trzecią
niedzielę miesiąca w naszej parafii
po Mszy św. o godz. 10.30 odbywa się kurs przygotowujący rodziców i chrzestnych do chrztu dziecka.
Osoby zamierzające ochrzcić
dziecko w naszej parafii są proszone o zgłoszenie
się na ten kurs prze chrztem dziecka. Dlatego należy pamiętać, aby:
► zgłosić się do kancelarii parafialnej przynajmniej półtora miesiąca prze chrztem. (Aby
uczestniczyć w kursie przygotowującym)
► Przy zapisaniu chrztu jest wymagany akt urodzenia dziecka.

Tak jak w każdą niedzielę tak również i dzisiaj
wychodząc z kościoła można nabyć nowy numer Tygodnika Katolickiego „Niedziela”. Znajdziemy tam bardzo ciekawe artykuły na temat
życia kościoła w Polsce także naszej Archidiecezji. Czytając ten tygodnik a także inne publikacje np.: „Różaniec”, „Anioł stróż”, „W Naszej Rodzinie”,
„Sygnały Troski” pogłębiamy naszą wiarę oraz miłość do
Boga i Kościoła.
Jest także do wzięcia za darmo gazeta „Katolik” wydawana przez naszą Archidiecezję Chicago.
