Rewolucja w Przepisach gry w piłkę nożną z perspektywy przekładowej
The article „Revision of the Laws of the Game from the Perspective of Translation Studies”
deals with selected translation problems of “The Laws of the Game” from English into Polish.
The updated edition of “The Laws of the Game” published by International Football
Association (IFAB) contains, as emphasized by the authors in the introduction, “the most
comprehensive revision of the Laws of the Game in The IFAB’s history”. However, the
changes introduced do not concern only the rules that have to be respected on the playfield, but
also the language. The authors have stated that the language used in “The Laws of the Game”
may be regarded as a specialized language. Therefore, the authors discussed salient
characteristics of Languages for Special Purposes (LSP) by taking into account several theories
of Polish, English and German scholars. The aim of this article is the analysis of the translation
of the updated edition of “The Laws of the Game” into Polish. The authors have proved that
some expressions used by the Polish non-professional translators seem to be ambiguous and
not transparent.
