THE ROCK
Peter was Jesus’ choice to lead the
fragile band of apostles. In today’s Gospel, Simon is given a new name—Peter,
the “rock”. In John’s Gospel, Peter is
called to be a shepherd. He is expected to lay down his life for
his sheep. And tradition tells us that he did just that. But today
we think about the durable rocklike quality that Jesus needed in
a leader.
Peter was appointed to his leadership position for reasons we
are not able to fathom. God knows and Jesus knew well, that
Peter was flawed. We cannot mistake his enthusiasms, though,
his manifest love and his great, exuberant faith. Those virtues
saw him through. They are durable, tough, beautiful virtues.
They make Peter a sympathetic and lovable person. They provide us with the balance and humor that we need as we consider our own roles in the universal church.
The second collection this weekend is an additional
collection to supplement our Diocesan Obligations.
ROLE OF THE BELLS
Sunday Mass is a significant time in the life of every Catholic
family. It is associated with many external traditions especially
the sound of bells. From my childhood, I remember the ringing
bells of the parish church a half hour before the Mass and my
mother reminding us that it is time to go for Mass. The tradition of calling people together by ringing of the bells dates back
to the 6th century. It was necessary at that time because of the
scarcity of clocks. The bells sounded like a convincing call
and a melodic invitation to individuals and families to encounter God in the community of believers in the local church. People streamed from near and far most of the time on foot to their
local churches. It personally rings a familiar chord in my
memories because as an altar boy, on some occasions we were
privileged to ring the three bells using the ropes. Today the
bells serve a similar purpose. It is a powerful reminder which
awakes the conscience of our obligation and privilege to worship God at Sunday liturgy. In some churches the bells ring a
half hour, while others 15 minutes and still others 5 minutes
before Mass. But the bells are always associated with the
church as a voice of conscience calling the people to participate
in the most fundamental activity of a Sunday morning.

NOVENA AND DEVOTION TO ST. JOSEPH
On Wednesday, August 27th at 7:00pm we invite our parishioners to join us for our weekly Novena and Devotion to our
Patron. The St. Anne Society will carry the St. Joseph Statue
from the Our Lady of Czestochowa Chapel to the sanctuary.
Please take advantage of this opportunity to ask for graces
through the intercession of Saint Joseph.
Every Wednesday the Mass is celebrated for the intentions
placed in the petition box in the Chapel. We are grateful for
your offerings.
If you wish your petiton to be prayed publicly please remember to write your intention legibly on forms available in
the Chapel.
DOZYNKI - HARVEST FESTIVAL
We would like to express our deep gratitude to all who helped
with our mini Harvest festival called Dozynki. We recognize
the hard work of thr general chairmen John Gasparik, Artie
Hunt, George Baldowski Peter Sirard , and Cindy Bourbeau.
A heartfelt thank you to Marzena Kolinski, Anna Kudron, Mary
Wedda, Theresa Wagner, Betty Sabaj, Ola Gronek, Krystyna
Bezak, and Janina Bozek and all those who helped prepare and
serve the pierogi, potato pancakes, kapusta and the other delicious foods. Thank you to Alexandra and Andrew Shore, and
Nick Brooks for setting up and taking down all the tables and
chairs as well as filling in where needed during the Dozynki.
We are most grateful to those who prepared the Harvest wreath
under the direction of Fr. Gregory especially to Marta Pajak and
Mieczyslaw Mietelski who served as the landowner and to the
children who carried the Harvest wreath in church. We are also
grateful to Orawa Bakery for baking the loaf of bread presented at Mass. We appreciate the presence of many people
from different places who attended this event. We grossed
about $3,500. The net profit will be reported when all the expenses are accounted for.
There are some fresh pierogi still available for sale this Saturday after 4:00pm Mass. Cabbage pierogi are $8.00 half dozen
and $15.00 a dozen. Cheese pierogi are $7.00 half dozen and
$13.00 a dozen.
The winners of the Money Raffle were: 1st prize $200 Lorraine Brezniak, 2nd prize $150 - Mary Lingis, 3rd prize
$100 - Anna Kokosinska, 4th prize $50 - Elzbieta Wojcik, 5th
prize $50 - Frances Lavallee. We are grateful to Frances
Lavallee for donating her prize for Diocesan Obligations.
Basket winners were: Gen Lariviere, Theresa Wagner, Helen
Lipski, Stella Miller, and Marlene Proulx.
From this traditional ritual of the past we learn the spirit of
gratitude to God from the gifts of the land to nourish our human
family.

Basilica/Gym by a first time visitor who lives in the Boston
area. Although she is not a parishioner, she was vey much impressed with the interior décor of the basilica and wanted to
support all our projects.
Friends of St. Joseph School Fund - August is the month
for this annual appeal which assists our students. The interest
from this fund helps us to keep our tuition affordable and supplements many other necessities. Your continued support and

A “SPLASH OF PANACHE” Vendor Event will be held on
Sunday, November 9th at Point Breeze Restaurant. General
Chairwoman is Jane Wilk. Vendors will be under the direction
of Jackie Skrocki and Sheri Bergeron. Anyone wishing to be a
vendor, please contact them. In conjunction with this fundraiser, we will hold a Special Raffle and the Lottery Raffle.
Marlene Proulx, Joann Canty, and Anna Kudron are chairpersons of these raffles. The sponsorship program booklet will be
chaired by Theresa Levasseur and Sue Werbecki, and Tickets
for the Event will be chaired by Phyllis Scully. As this is the
club’s only MAJOR fundraiser, full participation by members is
expected in order to make this a huge success. Proceeds from
this fundraiser supports St. Joseph School students and faculty.
More details will follow in upcoming letters to members, along
with the yearly calendar.
The first general meeting of the year will be held September
9th at 7 pm in the school and will feature a program on Card
Making. Members will make a “Thinking of You” card. Annual
dues will also be collected at that time.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
If you have not as yet registered your child into the Religious
Education Program, please do so as soon as possible. Forms are
available in the sacristy.
Religious Education is a vital part in the formation of spirituality
and character of a young person. May I ask parents to live up to their
baptismal promises to educate their children in their faith. Registration
fee is now $35 for 1 child and $55 for 2 or more.
A religious education teacher is needed for the first grade class.
Sharing our faith is the work of all baptized Catholics. If you are able

Family in distress - One family of our parish had a stressful
summer when there was a divorce in the family. Needless to say this
negatively affected the family budget and consequently the two
children who are enrolled at St. Joseph School. The mother would like
to have the children continue their Catholic education. In this difficult
time, we are looking for someone who would help them stay at St.
Joseph School by paying their tuition. This could be anonymous or we
could identify the family to a generous donor.
Volunteer Nurse Needed - We are looking for a nurse to volunteer
some time to St. Joseph School. If you could give a few hours a week,

“Reflections on the Prophets” is designed for adult discussion of
this portion of Holy Scripture. Sessions will be held at St. Louis
Church Hall, Webster @ 6:30 pm beginning Thursday, September
11th and continuing every 2 weeks, September 25th, October 9th and
23rd, November 6th and 20th, and December 4th and 18th. There is
no fee. Please bring a bible and a friend. Light refreshments will be
available.
Adult Bible Study - The Adult Bible Study will resume at St. Anthony of Padua on Monday, September 8th. We will continue to meet
on Mondays at 9:30 am for the school year except for holidays and
school vacations. We will be finishing up the New Testament course
that we covered last year on the first two Mondays with “The Book of
Revelation” and a summary of the New Testament’s originality. Anyone is still welcome to join us for these two. And then, we will be
starting a new series titled The Dead Sea Scrolls, on September 22nd.

DWUDZIESTA PIERWSZA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

„I tobie dam klucze królestwa niebieskiego; cokolwiek zwiążesz
na ziemi, będzie związane w niebie, a co rozwiążesz na ziemi,
będzie rozwiązane w niebie.” (Mt 16, 19)
Bardzo obdarowany był Szymon Piotr:
otrzymał łaskę rozpoznania w Jezusie
Mesjasza. Otrzymał też niezwykłą misję: stał
się skałą, na której Pan zbudował swój Kościół.
Prosty rybak, słaby człowiek - taki jak my. Bo Pan Bóg zna nasze
możliwości i powierza nam zadania według swojej logiki. Realizuje
swój plan zbawienia niekoniecznie przez tych, którzy mają
odpowiednie dyplomy i przygotowanie, ale przez tych, którzy
pokornym sercem szczerze Go szukają, pokładają w Nim ufność i dają
Mu się prowadzić. Czyli przez każdego z nas, jeśli tylko Mu
pozwolimy.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona na uzupełnienie
funduszu na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne.
DZWIĘK DZWONÓW
Niedziela to wyjątkowy czas w życiu każdej katolickiej rodziny. Jej
przeżywanie połączone jest z różnorakimi tradycjami i znakami.
Jednym z najbardziej rozpoznawalnych jest bicie dzwonów. Od
dzieciństwa słyszeliśmy ich dźwięk zwołujący na niedzielną Mszę św.
i rodziców przynaglających do pośpiechu, aby się nie spóźnić.
Tradycja zwoływania wiernych na nabożeństwa dźwiękiem dzwonu
sięga szóstego wieku. W czasach, kiedy nie było w powszechnym
użyciu zegarków, było to konieczne. Dzwony brzmią jak wezwanie
i melodyczne zaproszenie do osobistego i rodzinnego spotkania
z Bogiem we wspólnocie wierzących w lokalnym Kościele. Ludzie
przybywali pieszo z miej lub bardziej odległych miejsc.
Dzisiaj dzwony pełnią tę samą funkcję. Ich dźwięk to mocne
przypomnienie świadomości obowiązku i przywileju uwielbienia Boga
w czasie niedzielnej liturgii. Ich głos jest jak głos sumienia nawołujący
do uczestnictwa w podstawowym obowiązku chrześcijanina w czasie
niedzieli – Dnia Pańskiego.

NOWENNA I NABOŻEŃSTWO DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
W środę, 27 sierpnia zapraszamy na godz. 19: 00 wszystkich
parafian na naszą cotygodniową nowennę do naszego Patrona.
W procesji z figurką św. Józefa wezmą udział członkinie st. Ann
Society. Zachęcamy do wykorzystania okazji, aby poprosić o łaski,
które Bóg zsyła nam za wstawiennictwem św. Józefa.
Każdej środy Msza św. Jest sprawowana w intencjach składanych
w skrzynce przy figurce św. Józefa. Intencje, które chcemy, żeby były
przeczytane na głos prosimy wypisywać czytelnie, najlepiej
drukowanymi literami.
JĘZYK POLSKI DLA DZIECI
W sobotę 6 września o godz. 9:00, Mszą św. rozpoczniemy rok
szkolny w naszej sobotniej szkole, w której dzieci uczą się pisać,
czytać i mówić po polsku oraz poznają polską kulturę i tradycje. Od
klasy V uczą się historii Polski, a od VI, geografii Polski. Zachęcamy
Rodziców do zapisywania dzieci do naszej szkoły, gdyż przekazanie
tylko zdolności mówienia, czy nawet czytania (o pisaniu nie wspomnę)
w domu rodzinnym nie wystarczy, bez podstaw gramatyki i ortografii,
aby ten język Wasze dzieci z kolei przekazały Waszym wnukom. W
taki sposób w drugim, a najpóźniej w trzecim pokoleniu język polski w
takiej rodzinie zaginie. Dlatego warto zapisać malucha do szkoły
nawet wbrew jego woli, bo w wieku 5, czy 10 lat, takie dziecko nie
rozumie, co dla niego lepsze. Na pewno zdarzyło Wam się spotkać
ludzi, którzy mówili, że są Polakami, ale żałowali, że nie mówią po
polsku, bo ich rodzice nie dołożyli starań, aby ten język przekazać.
Dzieci można zapisać do każdej klasy, a przyjmujemy już nawet dzieci
trzyletnie.
Zainteresowane osoby mogą po prostu przyprowadzić dziecko w
sobotę i przydzielimy je do odpowiedniej klasy, albo proszę dzwonić

do 13:00. Jeżeli dzieci chodzą na zajęcia dodatkowe, jak piłka nożna,

RELIGIA
Prosimy o zapisywanie dzieci na zajęcia katechetyczne w nowym
roku szkolnym. Opłata za jedno dziecko wynosi $35 i $55 dolarów dla
dwóch lub więcej dzieci. Wcześniejsze zapisanie dzieci pozwoli nam
lepie zaplanować pracę na przyszły rok. Formularze zapisowe są
dostępne w zakrystii.
Edukacja religijna jest bardzo ważnym elementem formacji
duchowości i osobowości młodego człowieka. Posyłając dzieci
na katechezę rodzice spełniają postanowienie wychowania dziecka
w duchu chrześcijańskim, jakie powzięli w momencie jego chrztu.
Potrzebujemy nauczyciela do pierwszej klasy katechezy.

i serwować pierogi i placki ziemniaczane, kapustę i inne smakołyki.
Dziękujemy Alexandra i Andrew Shore, i Nick Brooks za ustawianie
i posprzątanie wszystkich stołów i krzeseł, a także za pomoc w czasie
pikniku. Jesteśmy bardzo wdzięczni tym, którzy przygotowali wieniec
dożynkowy, zwłaszcza pani Marcie Pająk i jej krewnym
i przyjaciołom oraz Mieczysławowi Mietelskiemu, który oprócz
pomocy w budowie wieńca wystąpił również w roli gospodarza
dożynek. Pragniemy również podziękować dzieciom, które niosły
wieniec w kościele w czasie procesji w kościele. Jesteśmy również
wdzięczni Orawa Bakery za upieczenie chleba na dożynkową procesję.
Doceniamy obecność wielu gości z różnych miejsc, którzy wzięli
udział w tym wydarzeniu. Podczas pikniku zebralismy około $3500.
Całkowity zysk zostanie ogłoszony, kiedy rozliczymy wszystkie
zobowiązania i należności związane z organizacją pikniku.
Po pikniku zostały jeszcze świeże pierogi, które będą dostępne w
sprzedaży w sobotę po Mszy św. o godz. 16: 00. Pierogi z kapustą
można nabyć po $8 za pół tuzina i $15 za tuzin. Pierogi z serem po $7
za pół tuzina i $13 za tuzin.

FRIENDS OF ST. JOSEPH SCHOOL
Sierpień jest miesiącem wspierania uczniów naszej szkoły. Odsetki z
tego Funduszu są pomagają utrzymywać czesne naszej szkoły na
poziomie bardziej dostępnym dla rodziców oraz wspiera inne szkolne
potrzeby. Dziękujemy za Wasze wsparcie i pomoc na rzecz Funduszu.

Saint Joseph Polish Women’s Club ciągle przyjmuje nowych

ANGIELSKI DLA DOROSŁYCH
Bartlett High School organizuje darmowe lekcje języka angielskiego
