MISSION
Today’s first reading from Isaiah was occasioned by the return of the Jewish people
from exile. The prophet visualizes the Holy
City as a mother welcoming her children
home. The people may now look forward to
prosperity and comfort. In this postPentecostal season, the Church attributes this
sense of fulfillment to the Holy Spirit.
Paul, on the other hand, speaks of “the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” It is the single thing of which he will boast, for it is
the means by which we are re-created. The comfort and prosperity promised in the first reading are here transformed by a
deepening of the Christian paradox.
Luke’s Gospel describes the calling and the mission of
“seventy-two others,” who are commissioned to bring in the
“harvest.” The number is symbolic, since according to Jewish
tradition the number of nations in the world is seventy-two.
This then is a universal mission, a catholic mission to all the
world.
The second collection this week is for Diocesan Obligations.
Next weekend’s second collection is designated
for Higher Energy Costs.
DIVINE MERCY
The first Sunday of each month is dedicated to the Divine
Mercy. We will gather in worship at 3:00pm services to pray
the Chaplet to the Divine Mercy followed by benediction.
Please join us for this very special devotion asking our Lord for
special favors in our lives.
CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION
The traditional outdoor candlelight procession in honor of
Our Lady of Fatima will be held on Saturday, July 13 at
7:00pm. We kindly request the Children of Mary to take part in
this beautiful tribute to our Lady wearing their distinctive dress
as they carry the statue of our Blessed Mother. We ask the
faithful to join the children and members of the Holy Rosary
Sodality in praying the rosary.

FESTIVAL
We are grateful for the many volunteers who came last Monday to clear the tables in the parking lot and to clean up the
remnants of the festival and return everything to its proper
place.
The festival is a big operation, needs a lot of equipment which
is expensive and has to be properly stored. Storage space is
scarce. The trailer that we have used for storage is good to a
certain extent but it is unsafe and can be easily broken into (as
we experienced in the past).
It was suggested by the festival committee to obtain a steel
container which is 40 feet long, 8 feet wide and 7 1/2 feet high.
At a cost of about $3,000, this would provide us with a very
secure storage area to store equipment for future use. We kindly
ask individuals to contribute toward this purchase or a generous
parishioner who would subsidize such an acquisition.
Festival Appreciation - The Hospitality Committee will
host an evening of gratitude on Saturday, July 20th after
4:00pm Mass in the school cafeteria.
We ask all chairpersons of various booths to come and be
sure to notify all their volunteers to join us for this special evening.
INDEPENDENCE DAY/PATRIOTISM
The national observance of Independence Day and in the
view of the unfolding alleged espionage of Edward Snowden
gives us the opportunity to reflect on the word patriotism.
The word patriotism emanates from the Latin word patria
which means homeland. The word father in Latin means pater.
Our homeland is then the heritage given to us by our parents,
our ancestors and by previous generations. Homeland also
means the state of ownership which includes the land, territory,
but above all values and spiritual contents that are part of the
culture of a given nation.
Patriotism means love of our national ethos, it means love of
our history, tradition, language, etc. This love encompasses the
work of many individuals, artists, inventors and achievers. Our
homeland is the common good for all its citizens, but at the
same time it is our duty and challenge to defend our country
which many times is very pricey and requires suffering and
sacrifice.
In recent decades, the word patriotism suffered erosion and
was diluted. When people become selfish, egocentric and
therefore are more reluctant to work for the common good they
might neglect their family and betray their country. Education
alone without character formation, without values does not encourage patriotism. I understand that Snowden and other
highly educated people might show little respect for their country or other individuals.
The catholic schools hold the word patriotism in high esteem
and teach the love of family, our nation and our country. That
love is strengthened by the Gospel values and endorsed and
solidified during Divine Worship in Church.
OFFICE OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION
If you have not registered your child for Religious Education
classes for the 2013-2014 session, please do so as soon as possible. The fee is $30 for one child and $50 for two or more children. Forms are available at the entrances to the Basilica.
SCHOOL SECURITY
Presently at St. Joseph School we are working on making
necessary, major security upgrades. The side door from the
parking lot will no longer be used as a main entry. Anyone
who uses the present entry has already gained entrance into the
school, including the cafeteria, before their identity is established.
Now the main entrance will be from Whitcomb Street, and
also from the parking lot via the newly constructed walkway.
A new secure door will be installed at the main entrance.
When visitors enter the school, they will have to stop at the
security window and report to the secretary. She will then decide if that person will be allowed to enter by using an electronic control switch.
Presently we have 15 operational cameras that are located
inside and outside and are monitored in the main office. This is
a major and costly project, but it is necessary to ensure the
safety of the children.
NOVENA TO ST. JOSEPH
Throughout the centuries, people developed devotional piety
to St. Joseph. It is well known that saints are known to grant
special graces—St. Rita “Saint of the Impossible”, St. Anthony,
lost and stolen articles and missing persons; St. Francis of Assisi favorite of ecologists, etc.
St. Joseph is the Patron of the average person with human
traits, such as laborers, carpenters etc. and also the patron of
families, fathers, single men, those seeking a happy death, and
successful business transactions, etc. In many churches and
shrines dedicated to St. Joseph people habitually seek his intercession and express gratitude for received graces.
On Wed., July 10th, we again will come together at 7:00pm
with our petitions of need. Please print your intentions legibly
and place in the box provided.
The members of St. Anne Society will process with the statue
of our patron to the sanctuary. This is an opportunity for our
parishioners to bring their friends and neighbors to join in this
special hour of devotion to ask for graces through the intercession of our powerful Patron, St. Joseph.
TRIP TO POLAND
The Pilgrimage to Poland is scheduled for June 22 through
July 3, 2014. We will leave from Boston, through Frankfurt to
Gdansk and return from Krakow via Frankfurt to Boston.
This tour includes major devotional centers and cities which
played an important role in establishing Poland’s Catholic identity. If you are interested in joining us, please call the rectory to
obtain an official brochure.
Our spiritual and cultural heritage has its roots in Europe and
therefore, it is desirable to visit the country of our ancestors.
VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED
We are preparing our school for the return of our students in
August. At this time we ask volunteers to come to paint and
refurbish our school. If you are able to help please call the

St. Anne Society - of St. Joseph Basilica is continuing their
current membership drive. It is the policy of its members to
take an active part in the spiritual functions at our parish and
the Society is proud of its long standing tradition of seeking
God’s blessings through the intercession of St. Anne, the
mother of Mary.
New members will be installed at the 8:15am Mass on

KRONIKA PARAFIALNA
CZTERNASTA NIEDZIELA ZWYKŁA

"Nie daj Boże, bym się miał chlubić z czego innego, jak tylko z krzyża
Pana naszego Jezusa Chrystusa." (Gal 6, 14)
Chrześcijanin, wzorem Apostołów, jest
powołany do głoszenia Dobrej Nowiny.
Każdy może to robić w najprostszy
z możliwych sposobów – świadectwem
własnego życia. I chociaż może nas spotkać
w związku z tym uznanie i podziw, to
jednak częściej napotkamy trudności, brak
zrozumienia i odrzucenie. I tak jak uznanie ze strony ludzi
nie może być naszym celem, podobnie odrzucenie z ich
strony nie może być dla nas powodem zniechęcenia. Jezus
wskazuje na ostateczny cel naszych działań: „Cieszcie się, że
wasze imiona zapisane są w niebie”. Możemy zostać
odrzuceni, wykpieni i opuszczeni przez ludzi, ale nigdy przez
Chrystusa.
Dzisiejsza druga kolekta jest przeznaczona
na Zobowiązania Diecezjalne.
Druga kolekta w przyszłą niedzielę będzie przeznaczona
na pokrycie kosztów utrzymania i energii.
KORONKA DO MIŁOSIERDZIA BOŻEGO
Dzisiejszej niedzieli gromadzimy się na wspólnej modlitwie
Koronką do Miłosierdzia Bożego. Jest to godzina modlitwy o
potrzebne łaski dla nas i dla naszych bliskich. Odmawianie
Koronki jest drogą otwarcia się człowieka na doświadczenie
Bożego Miłosierdzia i stanowi istotny element świadczenia
miłosierdzia bliźnim, tym bardziej, że z tą modlitwą związane
są obietnice Chrystusa: „Przez odmawianie tej koronki
podoba mi się dać wszystko, o co mnie prosić będą" (Dz.
1128). Zapraszamy do wspólnej modlitwy o godz. 15:00.
NABOŻEŃSTWO FATIMSKIE
W tym tygodniu przypada 13 dzień lipca (sobota), a więc
tradycyjnie zapraszamy na Nabożeństwo Fatimskie.
Gromadzimy się na wspólnej modlitwie o godz. 19:00.
Serdecznie prosimy Dzieci Maryi o niesienie figurki Matki
Bożej w czasie procesji. Zapraszamy również wszystkich
parafian do oddania czci Bogu poprzez uhonorowanie Matki
Jego Syna.
RELIGIA
Przypominamy o zapisywaniu dzieci na katechizację na
przyszły rok szkolny tak szybko jak to możliwe. Opłata
wynosi $30 za jedno dziecko oraz $50 za dwoje lub więcej
dzieci. Formularze zapisowe są dostępne przy wejściach do
Bazyliki. Te same formularze i warunki obowiązują przy
zapisie do Bierzmowania.

FESTIWAL
Pragniemy wyrazić ogromną wdzięczność wszystkim
osobom, które przybyły w poniedziałek, tydzień po
festiwalu, aby pomóc w sprzątaniu parkingu. Dzięki ich
ciężkiej pracy wszystkie przedmioty używane przy
festiwalu zostały zabezpieczone na następny rok, a na
parkingu i wokół szkoły znów zapanował porządek.
Wszystkie przydatne do festiwalu rzeczy i sprzęty muszą
być odpowiednio przechowywanie. W tym celu część z
nich jest złożona w ustawionej na cmentarzu przyczepie
(ławki, podłoga, ramy butików). Przyczepa nie nadaje się
jednak do przechowywania rzeczy cennych i wrażliwych na
warunki atmosferyczne, takich jak lodówki, czy grille.
Dlatego też komitet festiwalowy zasugerował zakup
metalowego kontenera rozmiarach 40 x 8 x 7,5 stóp.
Pozwoliłoby to nam na bezpieczne składowanie wszystkich
cennych sprzętów. Koszt takiego kontenera to 3 tyś.
dolarów. Zwracamy się zatem z uprzejmą prośbą, jeśli ktoś
ma taką możliwość, o składanie ofiar na ten zakup, lub jeśli
znalazła by się taka osoba, o sfinansowania całości zakupu.
Ofiarodawcom z góry składamy serdeczne Bóg Zapłać!
NOWENNA DO ŚW. JÓZEFA
Poprzez wieki wierni rozwijali swoje nabożeństwo do św.
Józefa. Jest rzeczą doskonale wiadomą, że każdy święty
jest utożsamiany ze szczególną łaską, której Bóg udziela za
jego wstawiennictwem i tak na przykład św. Ryta jest
nazywana patronką od rzeczy niemożliwych, św. Antoni
kojarzy się nam z osobami i rzeczami zagubionymi, a św.
Franciszek jest ulubieńcem ekologów.
Św. Józef jest patronem kojarzącym się z przeciętnym
człowiekiem i jego ludzkimi cechami. Jest patronem
robotników, stolarzy a także rodzin, ojców, kawalerów,
tych którzy modlą się o szczęśliwą śmierć oraz
businessmanów. W wielu kościołach i sanktuariach
poświęconych św. Józefowi ludzie szukają Jego
wstawiennictwa i wyrażają wdzięczność za otrzymane
łaski.
W naszej bazylice również oddajemy cześć temu
wielkiemu świętemu. W najbliższą środę, jak co tydzień już
od dwóch miesięcy, spotykamy się na połączonej ze Mszą
św. Nowennie do św. Józefa. Zapraszamy wszystkich
parafian i przyjaciół.
W tym tygodniu figurkę św. Józefa będą nieśli w procesji
na wejście i zakończenie członkowie St. Ann Society.
PIELGRZYMKA DO POLSKI
Z radością prezentujemy bardziej szczegółowe
informacje na temat planowanej pielgrzymki do Polski.
Wyjazd planujemy 22 czerwca a powrót 3 lipca 2014 roku.
Wylot z Bostonu do Gdańska i powrót z Krakowa do
Bostonu. W palnie pielgrzymki są m. in. wizyty w
głównych centrach duchowych i kulturalnych, oraz
miastach Polski. Zainteresowanych prosimy o kontakt z

ST ANNE SOCIETY
Stowarzyszenie św. Anny kontynuuje nabór nowych
członków, których uroczyste przyjęcie odbędzie się
niedzielę 28 lipca na Mszy św. o godz. 8: 15. Wszystkich

DZIEŃ NIEPODLEGŁOŚCI
Ogólnonarodowe obchody Dnia Niepodległości w
kontekście rozwijającej się afery szpiegowskiej z udziałem
Edward'a Snowden skłania nas do refleksji nad znaczeniem
słowa "patriotyzm".
Pochodzi ono od łacińskiego słowa "patria", które
oznacza ojczyznę, a to słowo wywodzi się od słowa "pater"
czyli ojciec. Ojczyzna zatem to dziedzictwo przekazane
nam przez rodziców, przez przodków oraz przez
poprzednie pokolenia. Ojczyzna to również stan posiadania
odnoszący się to terytorium. Nade wszystko jednak
oznacza wartości i duchową spuściznę będącą częścią
danego narodu.
Patriotyzm natomiast to umiłowanie etosu narodowego,
to znaczy historii, tradycji, języka itd. Miłość ta obejmuje
także dzieła wielu osób: artystów, wynalazców,
odkrywców... Ojczyzna to wspólne dobro całego narodu,
ale jednocześnie zadanie i wyzwanie polegające na jej
obronie, co niejednokrotnie jest kosztowne i wymaga ofiar,
a nawet cierpienia.
W ostatnich dziesięcioleciach słowo "patriotyzm" straciło
na swojej wyrazistości. Kiedy ludzie stają się samolubni,
egocentryczni i niechętni do pracy dla wspólnego dobra,
tym samym zdradzają swoje rodziny i gubią własną
tożsamość.
Szkoły katolickie utrzymują szacunek dla słowa
"patriotyzm" i uczą miłości do rodziny, narodu i kraju. Ta
miłość jest umacniana poprzez wartości ewangeliczne,
które są utwierdzane podczas nabożeństw liturgicznych.
