The Conference will provide a platform for electron microscopists, crystallographers, material scientists, solid state physicists, as well as life and earth scientists to discuss methods and techniques used in electron microscopy, The scope of the EM2011 is to provide a broad overview of the recent achievements in electron microscopy in the three major areas of instrumentation, methods and applications. The conference programme will include plenary lectures, oral and poster presentations covering both the fundamental, theory, instrumentations and applied research . Conference Topics The programme will cover applications and methods of electron microscopy to be used in industrial practice as well as materials structure determination. The following topics are suggested: Instrumentation and Techniques • • • • • • • Advancing HR-TEM and HR-STEM, Advances in SEM, Development in electron optical systems, Quantitative electron diffraction techniques (PED, CBED, EBSD), Electron energy loss spectroscopy and energy-filtered imaging/mapping, Electron tomography, Electron holography, • • • • • • In-situ and UHV electron microscopy, Environmental microscopy (SEM, TEM) Surface microscopy (LEEM, PEEM, AEM, EPMA), Digital imaging and processing techniques, Advances in sample preparation techniques, Focused ion beam application and techniques for physical and biological sciences. Materials Science and Nanotechnology • • • • • • Nanomaterials (nanowires, nanotubes , particles, graphene, fullerenes and carbon nanotubes), Surfaces, interfaces, thin films and coatings, Grain boundaries and defected structures, Metals, alloys and phase transformations, Semiconductors, Magnetic materials and super-conducting materials, • • • • • • • • Catalytic materials, Ceramic materials and complex oxides, polymers, molecular crystals and radiationsensitive materials, Amorphous, disordered materials and quasicrystals, composite and self-assembled materials, Porous materials, Industrial applications of electron microscopy, In situ applications of electron microscopy. Life and Earth Sciences Confocal microscopy, Live cell imaging, Analytical microscopy and biological nanoanalysis, Three-dimensional reconstruction in electron microscopy, Cell and tissue structure, Pathology, Geological and mineralogical materials, Microscopy of Biological, Biomimetic and Medical Materials Heinz-Josef Penkalla, Germany Debbie Stokes, The Netherlands Ludek Frank, Czech Republic Hans Dijkstra, The Netherlands Heinrich Jaksch, Germany Kenji Matsuda, Japan Robert Sinclair, USA Leopold Jeziorski, Poland Wolfgang Neumann, Germany Richard Portier, France Makoto Shiojiri, Japan Invited Speakers Michael Lehmann, Germany Rafal Dunin-Borkowski, Denmark Philippe Buffat, Switzerland/Poland János Lábár, Hungary Knut Urban, Germany Jean-Paul Mornirolli, France Christoph Koch, Germany Hosni Idrissi, Belgium Martin Hÿtch, France Wolfgang Jäger, Germany Stefan Zaefferer, Germany Venue The conference will be held in Wisła, located in southern Poland, near the border with the Czech Republic in historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. It is situated in the Silesian Beskidy mountains. Wisła is the Polish name for the Vistula River which has its source in the mountains near the town. The town of Wisła has its roots in the deep valley of the river Vistula and its tributaries. It is surrounded by the East Beskid Slaski mountains. In 1962 Wisła became a town and now is an important cultural centre for this region. There are wonderful possibilities for relaxation with a great number of mountain routes, sport and recreation centres, swimming pools and the river. The climate in the Beskidy mountains is temperate in June. The average temperature should o be about 20 C. Wisła has bus and train connections with Katowice and Kraków as well as other important towns in Poland. More information at http://www.wisla.pl. Arriving in Wisła The closest to Wisła international airports are: the airport in Pyrzowice (Katowice) and the airport in Balice (Kraków). Both cities have direct bus and train connection with Wisła centre. The organisers will provide buses for the conference participants th from Katowice to Wisła on Sunday 26 of June, 2011 at 15.00 and 18.00 and after the conference th from Wisła to Katowice on 30 of June, 2011 at 15.00. The participants wishing to use this possibility are requested to indicate their choice while registering via the conference website or by e-mail to the conference secretary. . Language The language of the events will be English. Exhibitions Institutions and companies are encouraged to present their exhibitions during the conference. These may include research instrumentation and services, state-of-art, products and technology as well as institutional exhibits. For detailed information, please contact the Conference Secretary. Calendar 31 January 2011 28 February 2011 15 May 2011 - Deadline for abstract submission Abstract acceptance Late registration and deadline for payment Abstract Submission Authors are invited to submit an abstract before 31 January 2011 (about 400 words, one page maximum, including the title, author affiliation, full mailing address of all authors). The contact author should be indicated by underlining his/her name. Abstracts should be submitted via conference website: http://em2011.us.edu.pl To get an access to the abstract creator, the author(s) should first register and choose his/her username and password. Once registered, the access to the abstract creator is available by the login operation. The Conference Scientific Committee will decide on the mode of presentation (oral, poster) but the authors are invited to indicate their preferences. Based on the abstract, papers will be selected for oral or poster presentation. Only one paper per registered participant will be allowed for presentation. All queries about the abstract submission should be sent to the Conference Secretariat. If, due to technical reasons, you are unable to use the online abstract submission procedure, please contact the Conference Secretariat. Call for contributed papers All the reviewed papers will be printed in the Solid State Phenomena. Participants are invited to submit their camera - ready papers during the conference to the Registration Office. Instructions for authors are online available in full text via platform www.scientific.net. All details can be found on the EM2011 website: http://em2011.us.edu.pl. Authors should submit two copies (the original plus one) and the electronic version of the paper. Full paper proceedings will be published after the conference. Only one paper of a given author will be published. The papers will be reviewed. Papers should not be longer than 4 pages (invited speakers – 6 pages). Instructions for presentation Papers presented at the plenary sessions should not last longer than 45 minutes including discussion. Papers presented at the oral sessions should last 20 minutes. The computers and overhead projectors will be available. Poster session will group most of the scientific contributions.
