Eighteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Are you planning a Baptism
in the upcoming months?
Baptism of infants is celebrated in
English on the second and fourth
Sundays of each month at 1:45 p.m.
You must call the Parish Office to
make arrangements prior to any baptism.
Pre-Baptism Class is required for baptism of your family’s first child to be baptized in this parish. The class in
English is usually held on the first Wednesday of each
month at 7:30 in the Parish Office. The Pre-Baptism
Class in August will be held on the second Wednesday,
August 13th, in the Parish Office at 7:30 p.m. Please
call the Parish Office in advance to reserve a place in the
class.
Time. Every week we get
168 full hours to work with.
However, we are often torn
in hundreds of directions
each day. Between work,
traffic jams, household
chores and everything else
that cuts into our 168 hours, we often look back
and ask ourselves, “Where did that entire week
go?” With all of our commitments how often do
we have a chance to sit back and enjoy this life
God so graciously gave to us? How often do we
have time to devote even one hour to reflect on the
mysteries of His boundless love?
If you would like to rediscover how GOOD it can
feel to experience the pure love of God in our hearts
without having to worry about “where I have to be
next,” we have just the thing for you. It is with
great enthusiasm and joy that we invite all men
of Saint Ferdinand Parish to experience the invigoration, joy, and power of the CRHP weekend.
This mini-retreat (held at our very own parish) is
an opportunity to re-ignite the burning passion
for our faith. A combination of faith sharing,
affirmation, prayer, and thanksgiving, CRHP is
a Christ centered experience that will change the
way you look at the Father, your family, and perhaps even your own life.
CRHP is an experience like no other. If excitement
for your faith has been hidden by your rush to get
everything done in 168 hours, please consider
joining us on our next weekend, October 18-19,
2003. Contact Ron Pasko at 773-636-1299 for
more details. Remember, a moment can change
your mind, a weekend can change your life.

As members of the parish faith
community, it is our responsibility to
remember both in concrete and spiritual
ways those who cannot celebrate with
us each week because they are ill.
Those who are sick in turn, remember
all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We
experience many blessings because of their remembering
us. And so ... please remember in your prayers:

The Will of God will never take
you to where the Grace of God will
not protect you.
Have you ever been curious
what it would be like to
attend a CRHP weekend?
Perhaps over the last six
years you have seen a bulletin article, heard an
announcement from the
pulpit, or even been invited personally by one of
our team members. Maybe you have thought that
an entire weekend is a large commitment to make
when you are not quite sure what you are actually
committing to.
For this reason, all parishioners are invited to
attend a very short, no-obligation informational
meeting on Sunday, August 17, 2003 at 3pm in
the St. Ferdinand Convent. You will be able to
meet the team members, learn more about the
weekend, and pose any questions/suggestions
you may have. Refreshments will also be served.
If you are interested in attending this no-obligation meeting, please contact Ron Pasko at 773636-1299 to register so that we may have enough
refreshments available for everyone. We look very
forward to meeting you!

Chicago, IL 60634
Dear Mr. Costigan,
We are very grateful for St. Ferdinand Church’s generous
donation of $507.70 to the Alexian Brothers Bonaventure
House. On behalf of our residents - past, present, and
future - we sincerely thank you.
Your contribution will help provide not only a home to
individuals living with HIV/AIDS, but also hope and
much-needed opportunities for developing independent
living skills. Bonaventure House staff tailors our programs to meet the individual needs of our residents, giving them the skills and confidence required to cope with
HIV/AIDS and with the challenges of living independently. They also become part of a community of individuals
living with HIV/AIDS, learning together to cope with this
devastating disease.
Your gift helps men and women with HIV/AIDS build
new lives with hope. Our community thanks you warmly
for your support.

Jan Maria Vianney - proboszcz z Ars
Jan Maria Vianney, urodzi³ siê 8 maja 1786 roku
w Dardilly ko³o Lyonu we Francji. Dzieciñstwo
spêdzi³ pas¹c owce i byd³o na 12- hektarowym
gospodarstwie swoich rodziców. Ma³y Vianney
opowiada³ innym pastuszkom ró¿ne opowieœci biblijne, w ten sposób sta³ siê ich pierwszym katechet¹. ".Mia³em czas na modlitwê, rozmyœlania
i zajmowanie siê swoj¹ dusz¹.Jak¿e ja by³em
szczêœliwy."
W tym czasie we Francji wybuch³a rewolucja,
a wraz z ni¹ terror i przeœladowania religijne.
Wielu mieszkañców Dardilly swoje niepos³uszenstwo i sprzeciw przyp³aci³o ¿yciem. Rodzice Jana
ukrywali u siebie przeœladowanych ksiê¿y. U jednego z nich Jan Maria spowiada³ siê. Aby
przyst¹piæ do Pierwszej Komunii Œwiêtej rodzice wys³ali go do
i kilkunastu dzieciom z wioski Pierwszej Komunii Œwiêtej.
Z powodu rewolucji szko³y parafialne by³y pozamykane. Tote¿
Jan Maria d³ugo nie umia³ czytaæ i pisaæ, a dopiero w wieku 19
lat poszed³ do szko³y. Tamtejszy proboszcz o. Balley, zacz¹³
uczyæ ch³opca ³aciny i przygotowywaæ go do wst¹pienia do seminarium. I spe³ni³o siê marzenie Viannney'a, gdy¿ najpierw
wst¹pi³ do ni¿szego, a po roku do Wy¿szego Seminarium
Duchownego w Lyanie.
Jan Maria nie nale¿a³ do dobrych uczniów, a nauka sz³a mu
ogromnie trudno, dlatego te¿ prze³o¿eni radzili mu wyst¹piæ
z seminarium.
u boku swego mistrza o. Balley’a. To on pierwszy zosta³ penitentem Jana Marii okazuj¹c w ten sposób ogromny szacunek.
Mistrz i uczeñ przeœcigali siê w dobrych uczynkach, modlitwie
i pokucie
Po œmierci o. Balley'a prze³o¿eni przenieœli m³odego ksiêdza do
Arsen Dembes, gdzie wkrótce zosta³ proboszczem. Parafia
liczy³a 230 wiernych i by³a mocno zaniedbana.
Jestem sam, mogê mno¿yæ do woli
pokutê i uczynki mi³osierdzia, mogê spêdziæ d³ugie godziny na
modlitwie."
Z takim nastawieniem rozpocz¹³ pracê. Od razu przypad³ do
gustu swoim parafianom, a poprzez przyk³ad swojego ¿ycia
zacz¹³ pobudzaæ swoich parafian do wiary. Swój dzieñ rozpoczyna³ o czwartej rano kiedy to na trzy godziny udawa³ siê do koœcio³a modliæ siê przed tabernakulum. "Bo¿e mój, je¿eli mój
jêzyk nie potrafi powiedzieæ Ci w ka¿dej chwili, ¿e
Ciê kocham, pragnê, aby moje serce powtarza³o Ci
to tylekroæ, ilekroæ razy oddycham".
Sobie i swoim potrzebom poœwiêca³ najmniej czasu.
Natomiast nie zapomina³ o swoich parafianach,
których czêsto odwiedza³ i wspiera³ w potrzebie.
Wielk¹ uwagê przywi¹zywa³ do niedzielnej Mszy
Œwiêtej. "Niedziela jest dniem Boga. Nie wolno jej
Bogu kraœæ. Na kradzie¿y siê jeszcze nikt nie
wzbogaci³." Dla wiernych by³a ona wielkim
prze¿yciem. Kazania Jan Maria przygotowywa³
Vianney’a zastyga³a
w bezruchu. Byæ mo¿e wtedy rodzi³y siê myœli
o wielkoœci kap³añstwa. "Ach, jak¿e wielki jest
kap³an! Jeœli zrozumia³by to sam, umar³by z wra¿enia. Sam
Bóg jest mu pos³uszny. Kap³an wypowiada s³owa konsekracji,
a nasz Pan zstepuje z nieba. Kap³an nie jest kap³anem dla
siebie, nie daje sobie rozgrzeszenia, nie udziela sobie sakramentów. On jest dla was."
Kolejn¹ wielk¹ charyzm¹ œwietego by³ sakrament spowiedzi.
Bo¿e Mi³osierdzie. Do Ars przebywa³o tysi¹ce pielgrzymów,
wiernych.
Mówiono, ¿e podobno¿ diabe³ opowiada³: Gdyby we Francji by³o
To On mnie strze¿e.
Lata up³ywa³y, a Jan Maria Vianney z Boga czerpa³ swoje si³y:
"Kiedy brakowa³o si³, bieg³em przed tabernakulum, jak pies do
swego Pana." Jednak tych si³ coraz bardziej brakowa³o, we
wtorek 2 sierpnia przyj¹³ sakrament Namaszczenia
i Eucharystii. W dniu 4 sierpnia 1859 roku o godzinie 2
w nocy Bóg powo³a³ do Siebie proboszcza z Ars, w koœciele
Natomiast 12
lat pózniej zaczêto wznosiæ wielk¹ bazylikê. W roku 1905
papie¿ Pius X beatyfikowa³ Proboszcza z Ars, a Pius XI przy
kanonizacji w 1925 r. og³osi³ go patronem proboszczów.

The Women’s Center is a pregnancy

birth to their babies. Since 1984 we have saved
more than 25,000 babies from death by abortion. We save more children than any other
center in the United States. Each year at The
