LIFE SCIENCE Open Space meeting
At the end of EUROBIOTECH you are welcomed to an extraordinary meeting to join a conversation about the power of collaboration in life science innovations. In one open space knowledgeable people representing diverse perspectives yet sharing one concern for the
development of the life science field, will gather together in hospitable
surroundings to engage in a dialogue that invites the exploration of possibilities and connects them with what they care about. The event will be
much different from anything you have probably ever been involved with.
It will NOT BE as most meetings - formal, impersonal and boring. Just
the opposite: it will be open, challenging, involving and generative. You
will be part of the event that will cast the ideas and paths for the future.
This year’s meeting will be held using the “World Café” formula.
The idea behind Café Conversation: When people are asked
where they have experienced their most significant conversations, nearly everyone recalls sitting around a kitchen or dining room table. There
is an easy intimacy when gathering at a small table, that most of us
immediately recognize. When you walk into a room and see it filled with
café tables you know that you are not in for your usual meeting. The
power of conversation is so invisible and natural that we usually overlook
it. Actually, conversation is a key process for any kind of development.
The Open Space is built on the assumption that people already have
within them wisdom and creativity to confront even the most difficult challenges. Given the appropriate context and focus, it is possible to access
and use this deeper knowledge about what is important. Two days of
knowledge-intensive meetings during the EUROBIOTECH will surely accumulate thoughts, ideas and questions of the greatest importance for
the global life science community. Why don’t we sit together after that
around café tables and share individual points of view to reach a common understanding of issues that matter.
What to expect: The meeting is all about raising our knowledge
and confidence in innovations in lifescience. It’s about collaboration towards well-being. It’s about exploring opportunities hidden in the minds
and hearts of individuals from science, business, healthcare, education
and government. There is no clear goal as regards the outcome of the
meeting. It’s more that by participating you may expect something new
and valuable to emerge as the result of exploring answers to the questions that are relevant to the real-life concerns of knowledgeable and
dedicated people. Besides that you can also expect that everyone - with
no exceptions - will have the possibility to be involved: to share thoughts
or ideas or to address a question he has an answer to or to cast a question in pursuit of the answer that matters. You will be inside a safe and
open space to offer the best thinking, not necessarily having to prove you
are right. We are seeking to reach a “shared understanding about what
is meaningful to each individual.” Such shared understanding does not
mean that we all share the same perspective on what is true, but rather,
that participants have the opportunity to share what is true and meaningful for them. As a result expect some patterns of common understanding
or vision or insights to emerge. Or maybe we will tube the single voice
in the room, trying to say something important. Or it is possible that one
single question that matters to all will emerge. And to all those related
to innovation in life science. The event will open a space for innovations
in the life science community.

O
n behalf of the organizing committee we would like to invite you to join the CENTRAL
EUROPEAN CONGRESS OF LIFE SCIENCES “EUROBIOTECH 2008”, which will
be held in Krakow, Poland on the 17th-19th October. We have chosen the
so-called “red biotechnology” to be the leading area for the 2008 congress.
There is an increasing interest in biotechnology in Poland and in the world, so we have decided to follow on the success of The First International Conference: Biotechnology in Agriculture
EUROBIOTECH 2007, which was organized in April 2007. In turned out to be a great success. 400 people
and 30 biotechnological companies, from Poland and abroad, attended the conference.
This year’s Central European Congress of Life Sciences EUROBIOTECH 2008 will focus
not only on agriculture but also on a wider spectrum of topics relating to Life Sciences.
We would also like to join ranks with other main biotechnological centres in Central Eurpe. We
invite participants from Slovakia, The Czech Republic, Hungary, Ukraine and Lithuania as well as from
other countries from the world, with the aim of creating a real platform for international meetings.
We hope that the congress will present not only an opportunity for academic lectures and presentations but also for business exchange. The trade fairs accompanying the Congress will gather companies from
different sectors: biotech, pharmaceutical and medical, patent firms, consulting, venture and investment fund companies.
We will focus on biopharmacology, biosimilars, nutrigenomics, bio-products, biomaterials and “green medicine”. These are
only the beginnings of creating a large and significant international biotechnology congress in Krakow. Encouraged by last
year’s press we are confident that it will soon become one of the most celebrated biotechnology sector events in Central Europe.
We hope that its success will be our joint effort.
