Publishing a new journal for five years is not a long
time. However, it is long enough to evaluate the
role which the journal plays in disseminating knowledge on sustainable development. According to the
Thomson Scientific Master Journal List (Lista Filadelfijska) the journal entitled Problemy Ekorozwoju
(Problems of Sustainable Development) appears at
the top of the list.

important is the Impact Factor (IF), which for Problemy Ekorozwoju is 0.51. This is well above the
average for most journals published in Poland (see
Table 1 and Table 2).
Using the Scholar database, I have checked the
citation of all papers published in all the indexed
issues of Problemy Ekorozwoju. The number of
citations for each author is listed in the References
section below.

Another measure of the quality of a journal is the
number of international authors. According to the
journal ranking database the first international
author appeared in 2009. However, the proportion
is small – 3% in 2009 and 4% in 2010. This percentage is too small for an international journal, and
the editor should concentrate on attracting more
authors from outside of Poland. Generally speaking,
the journal is doing well and, as one can see in the
journal ranking database of Scopus, it has already
attained the highest impact factor of all the environmental science journals published in Poland.
