The Most Holy Trinity
St. Ferdinand Parish
to Celebrate
Corpus Christi
The parish observance of the feast
of Corpus Christi will be on Sunday,
June 22. Our celebration begins with the
12:15 and 12:30 Masses in both Chapel and Church, followed by a neighborhood procession with the Blessed
Sacrament, and Benediction. Mass in Chapel will be in
Italian, Mass in Church will be in English and Polish.
We hope to involve all of our parish’s organizations,
our school children, the First Communicants, and all the
religious as well as cultural groups that worship as part of
the parish community.
All are encouraged to participate in this treasure of our
Catholic heritage. There is a space in the procession for
everyone.
As members of the parish faith
community, it is our responsibility to
remember both in concrete and spiritual
ways those who cannot celebrate with
us each week because they are ill.
Those who are sick in turn, remember
all of us daily in their prayers and in their sufferings. We
experience many blessings because of their remembering
us. And so ... please remember in your prayers:

Our Financial Support of St. Ferdinand Parish
Through your stewardship, the people of St. Ferdinand Parish contributed 13,589.16 in the regular offertory collection last weekend. This total was an improvement of $2,260 over the previous weekend, which was surprisingly the
lowest regular collection in over four and a half years. During the past week a number of parishioners have spoken to
me or showed me bulletins from other area parishes. It is true that collections are down nearly everywhere. No matter
how poorly we may think we are doing as a community, there are always others in worse shape (which, of course, can
be said of more things than money), if that kind of comparison makes us feel any better about ourselves and our collective stewardship. The point being that what we need to concern ourselves about is that we are doing all that God calls
us to do in His name. If we do so, with our time, talents and treasure, than our Lord will be well pleased with our individual and collective efforts.
Next weekend summer begins officially, we celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi, and all of our educational programs and many of our parish organizations are taking a well deserved rest for the next couple of months. I too am
going on vacation for two weeks, something I have not done in twenty-five years of working for the Church. It has
been another busy and often challenging year, both personally in the lives of many in our community and collectively as
a parish. It is time to enjoy the beauty of summer and the opportunity to recreate ourselves as disciples. May the Holy
Trinity be the source of our inspiration and the Body and Blood of Christ be our nourishment to truly be the Church at
this time and in this place.

COST AND BENEFITS OF CHILDREN
The government recently calculated the
cost of raising a child from birth to 18
and came up with $160,140 for a middle
income family. Talk about sticker shock!
That doesn't even touch college tuition.
But $160,140 isn't so bad if you break
it down. It translates into $8,896.66 a
year, $741.38 a month, or $171.08 a
week. That's a mere $24.24 a day! Just
over a dollar an hour.
Still, you might think the best financial advice is
don't have children if you want to be "rich."
Actually, it is just the opposite.
What do you get for your $160,140?
•Naming rights. First, middle, and last!
•Glimpses of God every day.
•Giggles under the covers every night.
•More love than your heart can hold.
•Butterfly kisses and Velcro hugs.
•Endless wonder over rocks, ants, clouds, and
warm cookies.
•A hand to hold, usually covered with jelly or
chocolate.
•A partner for blowing bubbles, flying kites, building sandcastles, and skipping down the sidewalk in
the pouring rain.
•Someone to laugh yourself silly with, no matter
what the boss said or how your stocks performed
that day.
For $160,140, you never have to grow up.
•You get to finger-paint, carve pumpkins, play
hide-and-seek, catch lightning bugs, and never
stop believing in Santa Claus.
•You have an excuse to keep reading the
Adventures of Piglet and Pooh, watching Saturday
morning cartoons, going to Disney movies, and
wishing on stars.
•You get to frame rainbows, hearts, and
flowers under refrigerator magnets and
collect spray painted noodle wreaths for
Christmas, hand prints set in clay for
Mother's Day, and cards with backward
letters for Father's Day.
For $160,140, there is no greater bang
for your buck.
•You get to be a hero just for retrieving
a Frisbee off the garage roof, taking the training
wheels off a bike, removing a splinter, filling a
wading pool, coaxing a wad of gum out of bangs,
and coaching a baseball team that never wins but
always gets treated to ice cream regardless.
•You get a front row seat to history to witness
the first step, first word, first bra, first date,
and first time behind the wheel.
•You get to be immortal.
•You get another branch added to your family
tree, and if you're lucky, a long list of limbs in
your obituary called grandchildren and great
grandchildren.
•You get an education in psychology, nursing, criminal justice, communications, and human sexuality
that no college can match.
•In the eyes of a child, you rank right up there
with God. You have all the power to heal a booboo, scare away the monsters under the bed,
patch a broken heart, police a slumber party,
ground them forever, and love them without limits, so . . . one day they will, like you, love without
counting the cost.

About the Mother’s Day Peace Project
For weeks you have been seeing items in the bulletin about
the Mother’s Day Peace Project. Mother’s Day is in May,
right? Why do we keep seeing Mother’s Day Peace Project
notices? Here’s what the Committee has to say:
“Arise...Christian women of this day. As men have often forsaken the plough and the anvil at the summons of war, let
women on this day leave the duties of hearth and home to
set out in the work of peace.” — Julia Ward Howe.
The Archdiocesan Women’s Committee in collaboration with
the Office for Catholic Schools, the Office of Peace and
Justice and Pax Christi Illinois would like to explain The
Mother’s Day Peace Project. This is an effort to remind us of
the origins of Mother’s Day as a Peace movement and to
provide resources and inspiration to women and others seeking to use their voice as a vehicle for peace in our world.
Each week you will find in your weekly bulletin a reflection
that encourages peace making in our homes, neighborhoods,
city, or throughout our world. These reflections will include
scripture, inspiration and an action idea. It is our hope that
this will inspire women and others to find ways to be a voice
of Peace in our world.
“Human society, as we here picture it, demands that men
(and women) be guided by justice, respect the rights of others and do their duty. It demands, too, that they be animated
by such love as will make them feel the needs of others as
their own.” (Pacem in Terris # 35)
The Project is designed to continue for the entire year and is
sponsored by the Archdiocesan Women’s Committee
- Women & Society subcommittee.

God of love and compassion, before this season of

Today, history and circumstance, force us to release

pray for them and bless them in your name. Grant them

Powoli zbli¿amy siê do Uroczystoœci Bo¿ego

Chrystus odchodz¹c do swojego Ojca zechcia³ zostaæ

my czêsto zapominamy o tym, czujemy siê

Poni¿ej przytoczony cud eucharystyczny

Cud w Lanciano, sta³ siê s³ynny
w ca³ym œwiecie od czasu, kiedy 4 marca
1971 r. og³oszono wyniki kilkumiesiêcznych badañ naukowych postaci
Cia³a i Krwi przechowywanych od VIII
wieku we w³oskim mieœcie Lanciano.
Historyczne Ÿród³a mówi¹ nam o tym, ¿e
w po³owie VIII wieku mia³o miejsce
niezwyk³e wydarzenie w ma³ym przyklasztornym koœciele œw. Longina.
Otó¿ pewnego zakonnika, który tam mieszka³, nawiedza³y

Mszê œw. mia³ w¹tpliwoœci, czy w czasie konsekracji chleb
rzeczywiœcie staje siê Cia³em Chrystusa, a wino Jego
Krwi¹. Pewnego dnia rankiem, podczas odprawiania Mszy
œw., kiedy wypowiada³ s³owa konsekracji, ogarnê³a go
watpliwoœæ niezwykle silna i natrêtna. I wtedy
wypowiadaj¹c s³owa: “To jest Cia³o Moje... To jest Krew
Moja...” zauwa¿y³, ¿e z bia³ej Hostii rzeczywiœcie sp³ywa
krew. Na widok tego, co siê dokona³o, oniemia³y ze zdumienia i przera¿enia, zakonnik w ekstatycznym milczeniu
wpatrywa³ siê w œwiête postacie Cia³a i Krwi Pañskiej.
W koñcu strach ust¹pi³ i jego serce przepe³ni³a nieopisana
radoœæ. Po d³ugim milczeniu, z twarz¹ rozpromienion¹
radoœci¹ i mokr¹ od szczêœcia, zwróci³ siê do wiernych
uczestnicz¹cych we Mszy œw. ze s³owami: “Patrzcie, oto
prawdziwe Cia³o i Krew Pana naszego Jezusa Chrystusa,
które uczyni³ widzialne dla mnie w tym celu, abym nie by³
ju¿ niedowiarkiem lecz wierz¹cym”. Wieœæ o tym
nadzwyczajnym wydarzeniu roznios³a siê po ca³ej okolicy.
W krótkim czasie koœció³, w którym mia³ miejsce cud, sta³

nap³ywaæ pielgrzymi. Œwiête postacie Cia³a i Krwi przechowywano w specjalnym relikwiarzu.
W miarê up³ywu wieków o Eucharystycznym cudzie
zaczêty kr¹¿yæ rozmaite legendy. Ojcowie Franciszkanie,
którzy s¹ kustoszami sanktuarium,
postanowili sprawdziæ wiarygodnoœæ kultu
œwiêtych postaci Cia³a i Krwi Chrystusa.
W tym celu 18 listopada 1970 roku zlecili
grupie w³oskich naukowców szczegó³owe
badania pod kierownictwem prof. Odoardo
Linoli z Arezzo. Badania trwa³y kilka
miesiêcy. Zakoñczone zosta³y 4 marca
1971 r. Wyniki by³y sensacyjne i znalaz³y
siê na pierwszych stronach w³oskich gazet.
Potwierdzi³y przekaz tradycji, ¿e Hostia
stanie zachowa³y siê do naszych czasów.
Trzy lata po pierwszych badaniach naukowych, przyjecha³
do Lanciano ks. kard. Karol Wojty³a, aby spêdziæ tu ca³¹
noc na modlitwie i adoracji Eucharystycznego cudu.
Pozostawi³ bardzo wymowny zapis w ksiêdze
pami¹tkowej: Fac nos Tibi semper magis credere, in Te
spem habere Te diligere (Spraw, abyœmy w Ciebie
bardziej wierzyli, pok³adali nadziejê i mi³owali).
Eucharystyczny cud w Lanciano jest znakiem
szczególnego rodzaju, który wskazuje na ¿yw¹
obecnoϾ Jezusa w Eucharystii. Jest to bardzo
wymowny znak, który wzywa do wiary, do otwarcia
serca na przyjêcie daru nieskoñczonej mi³oœci
Zbawiciela ofiarowanej nam w Eucharystii.

•ARCHDIOCESAN WEEKDAY RADIO PROGRAMS
DEBUT ON NEW STATION AT NEW TIME
Archdiocese of Chicago radio programs are now airing
Monday through Friday in a new time slot and on a wellknown radio station that can easily be heard throughout
the Chicago area. "Catholic Community of Faith" programming airs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on WCSN, Radio820-AM.
The new program lineup features news and information
about the ministries, agencies and services of the
Archdiocese of Chicago. Topics of faith are explored with
a Catholic perspective.
Also significant is the fact that Archdiocesan programs
will follow the popular national Catholic radio program,
"Morning Air," hosted by Jeff Cavins who is known for
his EWTN television series, "Life on the Rock." Starboard
Network produces "Morning Air" out of Minneapolis, and
it can be heard from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Radio-820-AM.
Tune in for "Morning Air" from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and for
Archdiocese of Chicago radio programming from 9 a.m.
to 10 a.m. every weekday morning on Radio-820-AM, the
new home of Catholic talk radio in Chicago.

The Most Holy Trinity
Page Nine
A Trinity Thought Experiment
No one except God can understand how
there are three distinct persons in one God.
We can, however, understand why it is
important to us. Here is a theological
thought experiment or analogy to explain
the meaning of the Holy Trinity.
Imagine a fan with three blades. On each
of the blades picture signs labeled
"Father", "Son" and "Spirit." Suppose that
the "Father" blade is on top. It represents
the one life of God. The Father knows
about the Son and loves him, so he gives
his entire life to his Son. He does not
divide his life, he gives it all. Imagine the
"Son" blade turning to the top.
When the life is not in the Father and not yet in the Son, it
has to be somewhere. It is in the Holy Spirit. (Remember
that this is only an illustration of something far more complicated.) So the
"Spirit" blade comes to the top of the fan.
Now how can the one life of God be in
all three persons at the same time?
Imagine turning on the fan. The blades
spin so fast that it is impossible to see
which is on top. You might say, from this
example, that God is a dynamo of love,
constantly sharing one life.
If the Father can give his life to two other
persons, why not four or ten or a billion?
If the Father wants to do this he can. The
message of the Trinity is that he wants to
do it. The Father wants to include you.
